Err, say what? I seem to recall last year’s 3yo CP winner running 5th in the Guineas.

Yeah mate, but you might also recall no one wanted to run in the race last year. The only reason So You Think made the field was that Rangirangdoo was withdrawn on Thursday morning, and he was the only nomination left. He got in with only the Gloaming Stakes under his belt.

It’ll be much more difficult to make the field this year with better horses around, and probably only a win in the Guineas will be enough to gain a start.

Anyway, the horse is good enough, and he’s got the guineas by the balls as it is. Get the early odds!

Okay my newest attempt at the Order Of Entry, this time with the nominees.

Shocking ran off 51kg last year. Having my own go at setting his weight for this year, I’d add 1.5kg because he’s no longer getting the 4yo allowance, and 3kg for the victory, coming to 56.5kg. This is probably 0.5 or 1kg lower than he’ll actually get. Anyway, I haven’t used this figure.

ALL figures have 1.5g added on for fillies and mares.

I’ve given priority to the Racing Victoria h’cap ratings next to the entrants. I divided these by two. Thought they were a tadge high, so I knocked 0.5kg off.

For horses with a British Official Rating, I’ve divided it by two, and then taken 2 off to get a figure in kilograms. So, OR 120 = 58kg, 110 = 53kg.

I’ve divided the Racing New South Wales Benchmark figures by 2.

I’ve added 4kg to the JRA ratings, so Jaguar Mail is 57.5 instead of 53.5, etc.

I was working thruugh some figures at the weekend, and so as to save time, I’ve kept them.

Anything with a weight of less than 50kg has been raised to 50kg.

    Miscellany

Well, excuse us Chiswickian if we hold off Shamoline Warrior for a bit, given that he got pulled out on the morn of his last race, and he had a problem afterwards. In defence, I

    am

    on his half-brother.

Andy, bit of a pre-emptive warning. Don’t get put away by someone saying at some stage that Illustrious Blue is a Goodwood specialist. He just runs there so often because the owners live nearby, and so does the trainer, and so does the horse.

Finally, damn, I thought that for the first time in a couple of months I had some free time, and I was doing my Friday afternoon drinking session one day early, but some research has come my way . . .

    Gaiwatch

I have just finished up at a photo shoot for the David Jones Spring/Summer 2010 Race Day collection alongside the gorgeous Emma Freedman – daughter of the legendary trainer extraordinaire Lee Freedman.

Emma has bloomed in her role as David Jones ambassador after taking over from our beautiful daughter Kate. Emma has captured the essence which is David Jones – that of beauty, elegance and great couture.

Looks like Magic Millions is their version of Ladies’ Day at Aintree

    Racy fashions right on course

    Rachel Syers | January 10th, 2009

ONE of the highlights of the Magic Millions racing carnival is the fashion.

The hot, colourful, glamorous, in-your-face gorgeous Gold Coast girl fashion.

And our girls will be out there — really out there — in their colours.

So fashion advice from Victorian racing identity Emma Freedman could be right off course.

Ms Freedman doesn’t want to see any of that today at the Magic Millions racing carnival.

The Channel Nine presenter, who will be covering fashion for the network during their live broadcast, laid down the law yesterday, saying Gold Coast girls needed to remember they were going to a race track and not the beach or a nightclub.

"You have to be careful how you present yourself. It’s the sport of kings and we want to keep it that way," she said.

"The risque stuff should be kept for later on in the night."

But the Gold Coast isn’t Melbourne, Ms Freedman. Thankfully.

The sun, the sea, the sand, the go-getter attitude all combine to create an atmosphere that’s upbeat, bright and breezy.

    Our fashion style reflects that.

Gold Coast Bulletin society queen, style guru and fashion judge Regina King agrees,

"Gold Coast girls dare to be different," she said.

"We like to be colourful, out there and fun.

"We know we’re mad and extroverted but we love it."

No one can dispute that Ms Freedman, 20, knows her way around a racecourse.

As the daughter of leading horse trainer Lee Freedman, she certainly has the pedigree and is always one of the best-dressed women at the track.

"I don’t like to see girls wearing dresses that are too short and I don’t think a strapless dress is too appropriate for the race track," she said yesterday.

"It is suppose to be a demure place where you can socialise and watch the horses, have a bet and not look like you’re going to a nightclub.

"So I think if you keep it simple, classy and elegant you can’t go wrong."

But Ms King, who has been setting the trends for years, said she supported girls wearing as little as they liked.

"Why not wear strapless dresses? They’re young, beautiful and have lovely shoulders.

"It doesn’t have to be rude, crude and unattractive.

"They’re gorgeous when they float in, in their little dresses."

Showing how we do it up here — in a giant white marquee adjacent to the Gold Coast Turf Club yesterday — a dozen local, interstate and international models flirted with the cameras.

Looking stunning in their summer brights by a variety of designers for the Magic Millions David Jones Racing Fashion Preview, the gorgeous gaggle was led by one of Australia’s newest international success stories, model Alexandra Agoston.

The pack paraded down a catwalk set inside a marquee decorated with hay bales and extravagant green and crystal chandeliers.

Tweed model Samantha Harris was among the 12, who modelled popular Australian fashion labels such as Alannah Hill, Lisa Ho, Easton Pearson and Carla Zampatti.

The leg-baring lengths and bold shades were perfect for Coasters wanting to flaunt their tan and fashion sense at the track.

Designer Jonathan Ward, of R. M. Williams, who was commissioned by Magic Millions to design a $40,000 golden glamour gown, said Gold Coast women knew how to wear colour better than southerners.

"Yes sometimes they are over the top, but they know how to have fun with colour," he said.

"Queensland women are frivolous with their own sense of style, but it’s great opposed to a look of all-black, like in southern states, which can be quite stifling.

"Colour is good for your soul too, especially with all the talking down due to the money problems at the moment."

Mr Ward said Gold Coast women were also ‘not too picky’ with their brands and didn’t mind mixing up labels.

"I’m really looking forward to seeing all the outfits they are going to bring out and wear to the turf club," he said of today’s Magic Millions Race Day at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Meanwhile, Ms Freedman also put Gold Coast guys on notice.

Hot or not, she expects to see them all in suits.

"I still like a guy in a suit, I don’t care what they say," she said. "A guy always looks marvellous in a suit despite it being hot.

"They get their chance in winter to be comfortable in a few layers when we suffer through that time, so this is their time to put in the hard yards.

"Putting a bit of effort in for the ladies doesn’t go astray."

Ms King said while she would like to see the boys in suits, they could get away with ‘a lovely shirt and beautifully cut trousers’.

"But the shoes are the most important thing. They must be shiny and clean.

"That’s the big thing we look for when judging the men."

Speaking of shoes, Ms Freedman said she didn’t want to see any white ones.

"I hear white shoes up here are a big trend and I’m not too fond of that … "

Don’t worry Ms Freedman, the Gold Coast style will be there for all to see.

In the fashion stakes, the Melbourne fashionistas could well be the also-rans.

Hard work, but someone had to do it.

Was wondering whether to waste posts on peripheral entries, but given my previous post, here goes . . .

South-west trainers chase Melbourne Cup riches

SEVEN south-west gallopers have nominated for the $6 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 2.

Father-and-son training combination Bill and Symon Wilde have three nominations with Basaltico, Hissing Sid, and Lords Ransom paid up.

Camperdown trainer Denis Daffy has entered Miles Above, Jarrod McLean has taken the first step towards Cup glory with Cats Fun and Ciaron Maher steps up to the big time with star galloper Moudre.

Codrington trainer John Nugent has unraced three-year-old Try Pickle nominated for the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Guineas.

    And another

Jeuneys End, Leica Larrikin nominate for Melbourne Cup
    MATT CRAM

IF form was everything, Wangaratta trainer Allan Fitzgerald would be right to think his stable star Jeuneys End will feature prominently in this year’s spring carnival.

The lightly raced six-year-old was yesterday one of two North East and Southern Districts gallopers nominated for the Melbourne and Caulfield cups along with impressive Corowa gelding Leica Larrikin.

Jeuneys End’s rise as a stayer has been sudden — it was only in January this year as a five-year-old that he first raced over more than 1612m — but the son of 1994 Melbourne Cup winner Jeune hasn’t missed a beat since.

His first effort over 2200m produced a win at Seymour and then two weeks later he cantered to a three-length victory over 2400m at Sandown.

But it was at his next and most recent outing that Jeuneys End really impressed his trainer, running second behind subsequent Auckland Cup winner and $2.25 million BMW placegetter Zavite in the Moonee Valley Night Cup over 2500m.

“There was good form from that race … and I think he’ll be better when he gets over longer,” Fitz-gerald, 48, said.

“I’d say the Melbourne Cup is more his sort of race between that and the Caulfield Cup but they’re both a long way away.

“Hopefully he’ll go through the Geelong and Moonee Valley cups, those sort of races.

“It’s nice to be able to think about cups races.”

Fitzgerald, who won the 1988 Albury Gold Cup as a jockey, has been training for five years.

Jeuneys End will start in his spring campaign at Flemington on Saturday.

I agree re: Shamoline Warrior, I’m going to be cautious just because I know he’s had a few issues.

Gerald you’d do well to be less precious about quality insider info. More quality and a hell of a lot less quantity would serve you well on this thread.

And by all means Andy tell us what you know. I need a good third party twice removed assessment.

Wow, you have become really defensive Chiswickian. Why is that?

The fact remains, I treat insider info as a grain of salt.

I have been burned too many times by people who claim to have inside information.

I believe you do, most definitely, have inside information – but I still cannot warm to the horse.

    It is a personal choice.

Now care to explain why you decided to attack us when we said we don’t want to back Shamoline Warrior?

On a slightly different subject, I see The Miniver Rose is entered first up in a 1400m handicap at Flemington tomorrow. I would say no hope, but Above Average won first up at Caulfield over 1600m and the track is currently rated heavy.

Answer the question Andy. Or have you been speaking rubbish and caught out? What are the "few issues"?

Andy please refer to my post that seems to have kicked off the attitudinal problems from yourself and Gerald. I might have been too subtle but thought I made it quite clear then that I can only provide info. What others do with it is their own business. Both yourself and Gerald misread my intent and got defensive in response.

I am not trying to make anyone swallow my info or support the horse. If you’re going to be a journalist get a thicker skin son. You made the below statement and have been asked to back it up. So now it’s time mate. Please relieve yourself or get off the pot.

Why was he scratched on the morning of the Derby? It was a lung infection, if my memory serves me correctly.

Don’t remember why he was missing during the autumn, but logic says that something must be wrong – either related to the lung infection, or something else.

    Doesn’t take a genius.

I don’t see where you get the idea I don’t have a thick skin…? You came out all guns blazing, and to be honest it came from nowhere. Just wondering what sparked the sudden change in attitude.

Now, focusing on the racing – I can’t wait to see The Miniver Rose out tomorrow.

Ok so you know nothing. Try sticking to that in future. Your above "facts" are not correct. When you say "I know" something you’d better be sure or you’ll look a long, long way from a genius and rightly so.

Yes you do have a thin skin. I haven’t even reached for my cigarette lighter yet and you have me "coming out all guns blazing".

It’s not my job or place to enlighten you. I simply post as and when I see fit. I certainly wont be posting a message saying "I know" something when I clearly have very little idea.

So endeth the point of this little discussion. I wish you well with your investments this Spring.

Fair enough, my mistake. Least I can admit.

    Good luck too.
