Read in the other place that Shamoline Warrior is now 17.2 hands.
Isn’t this beginning to get a bit big? Not too sure, as these things aren’t often publicised here. (If one were asked in this country what size Nijinsky or Mill Reef or Dancing Brave was, most racing people would have to guess rather than knowing the answer.)
Would this mean he’d be better next year?
August 2, 2010 at 17:45 #310612Gosh, an update to the ante-penultimate post already.
Mike De Kock targeting Melbourne Cup glory
By Michael Clower 3:15PM 2 AUG 2010South Africa: Mike De Kock, South Africa’s champion trainer for the fifth time and with a record-prize money haul, is on the point of adding the Melbourne Cup to his global ambitions – next year, if not this.
He said: "I honestly believe that Irish Flame [runaway winner of the South African Derby and second in last Saturday’s Durban July] is a Melbourne Cup horse and I’ve told the owners not to hesitate to send him. Don’t be surprised to see his name among the entries."
I’m a firm believer in striking whilst the iron is hot, and I stated at the time that Notre Pere ought to have gone for last year’s [2009] Grand National.
August 2, 2010 at 21:13 #310651Damn, I just posted it on TBV, didn’t realise you already had!
I hope they do come, I have massive respect for De Kock.
We’ll know in 6 hours if Irish Flame is entered.
According to Jim McGrath, Godolphin holds 9 entries for both Cups, led by Cavalryman.
August 3, 2010 at 02:32 #310669Cavalryman is in my Arc portfolio, which is one of the funniest things that people are not going to get to see. I’ve got £11 @ 41.25 , whilst the current price is 320 , and all my other selections show a similar tale.
August 3, 2010 at 03:28 #310670No Crime Scene or Mourilyan in the noms.
And no Ma Chienne Anthony, Lords Ransom is there though.
August 3, 2010 at 03:31 #310671Gai has seven – Descarado, Go With The Flo, Herculian Prince, Just A Blaze, Once Were Wild, Tullamore, Two for Tea.
August 3, 2010 at 03:39 #310672O’Brien won’t be back, no noms.
Godolphin’s nine are Campanologist, Cavalryman, Darley Sun, Holberg, Libel Law, Mastery, Once More Dubai, Pompeyano and Sopranist.
Weld has Majestic Concorde, Natural High (someone will be happy
), Profound Beauty and Rite of Passage.August 3, 2010 at 03:58 #310673Yeah Ma Chienne, that’s a bummer. There a few usual suspects.
Rothesay for the Cox Plate. I know Gerald Ryan said he’d be targeting the Emirates before going overseas, but I don’t believe that for a second, that’s just old school ‘cagey’ behaviour. He’ll be there and he’ll smash them!
What’s Kitbutz nominated for? Fair Dinkum
Anyone given Count Encosta much thought? Made a meal of Descarado in the Tulloch, beating him easier than Shoot Out did in the Derby.
August 3, 2010 at 04:32 #310674Hume’s been entered Gerald! I wouldn’t back him, as he may be rushed back if he races, but all hope is not lost for you yet.

From yesterday’s Times.
Harry Herbert "I’ve had complete strangers from Australia sending me emails urging me to enter Martyr …… "
You’ll really have to stop the stalking Andy.

I’ve seen plenty of recent pictures of Shamoline Warrior and I sure wouldn’t be too concerned about his size. His opposition should though. He’s now a monster weighing in at around 550kg but looks perfectly balanced and not at all top heavy. The horse has always been 100% sound in the legs and has only had a problem with an allergy.
This is a superb specimen folks. Looked like a swaggering Michael Johnson at the Flemington jumpouts last week. Get ready for some gold medal action.
August 3, 2010 at 12:27 #310718Not one nomination from the Snowden yard for either Cup, this is what you get for breeding too much speed into the bloodlines. I think Darley need to take a new approach to their breeding operation if they ever desire to win a Cup.
4 noms for the cox plate however – All 3yo’s. Bullbars looks the best, brilliant win at his only appearance. He’d need to win the Guineas first though to warrant a crack at it
August 3, 2010 at 12:49 #310721Go on Rite of Passage

Do it Mr Weld
August 3, 2010 at 13:03 #310728Very impressed with Faint Perfume so far, and Boss mad keen to ride her…20/1
August 3, 2010 at 14:25 #310749Not too bad – only £55 on horses not entered.

Err, say what? I seem to recall last year’s 3yo CP winner running 5th in the Guineas.
If Mr Boss is so keen to ride Faint Perfume what does that say about the jockey who has jumped off the mare?

Did Rodd actually have a choice as you understand it?
