    More Joyous

(More Than Ready) was just that and she is out to prove all critics wrong in two things:

    1. The distance she will perform over – I am aiming her at the Cox Plate

    2. That she can sustain a longer preparation – I really have a filly to work with this preparation

    She’s going for the quinella!

The Guinness race that Natural High is entered in tomorrow evening is worth a total of E65,000, E42,250 to the winner.

Just had a look at last year’s race on goracing.ie, which Drunken Sailor won, and it is the same, E65,000 total.

The Racing Post site had it as roughly the same number of pounds £41,082 to the winner, when there are 1.20 euros to the £.

    1 euro = 1.45 Australian Dollars, apparently.

42,250 euros times 1.45 equals Aus$61262 , so it is a close run thing whether Drunken Sailor is qualified or not.

Very interesting. I have no strong opinion on whether More Joyous will stay but clearly there could be something to fall back on if she doesn’t stay/run well in open company.

There is no doubt in my mind that she’ll stay the trip.

Am I guessing we won’t see Tactic in Melbourne now?

    Illustrious Blue apparently is coming.

Hey guys, sorry for joining in so late, love your work. Just wondering if ‘Ma Chienne’ should be on your list. Runner up in the Perth Cup to Lord’s Ransom, absolutly flying at the end and probably should have won. I think you’ll find she’ll be nominated come Monday.

Also I reckon there’s a potential Cup horse running in Adelaide on saturday. ‘Hastein’ trained by Mark Kavanagh. By Viking Ruler out of a Zabeel mare. Place 7 of it’s 8 starts including a last start 10 length win over 1950m. It’s only 1200m on Saturday, but should be running on first up. I reckon he’ll be in the noms released on Monday.

    Again, love your work

Hey ARachelle, do you know anyone who is with Ma Chienne?

I’d be interested on doing an article on her – I know Lords Ransom is now with the Wildes at Warrnambool and I believe he’ll be nominated too.

And Hastein is an interesting one, I backed him a few times and he just couldn’t win. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the penny has dropped.

Yeah mate. Adam Durrant trains Ma Chienne. She’s been placed something like 21 of her 24 starts. Has a freakish turn of foot. Try gets your hands on some replays. Unlike Lord’s Ransom and co. she’s not owned by Bob Peters, so Durrant should still have her. Unless Bart has stolen her, he has a habit of doing that!

Oh, my name’s Anthony by the way. Confusing Username

I’m intrigued that when Adam Durrant got the 1-2 in the Perth Cup he said that it represented a turning point for Durrant Racing, but I’m not aware of anything having happened since.

Also, on the racingandsports site, Peter J Morgan is down as the trainer of Lords Ransom, including when winning. What is the story behind that? (On the Racing Post site Durrant is down as the trainer.)

Haven’t read too much about Illustrious Blue after yesterday (working and sleeping) but I thought it was the jockey that mentioned the Melbourne Cup, whilst the trainer mentioned next year’s Gold Cup at Ascot. Will get an entry anyway, and the owners can no longer argue that they can’t afford it.

This shows how slow and narrow-minded my brain works at time. I only just realised yesterday that owners have to pay for horses to come back as well as go! Noticed yesterday that Crime Scene in not down as being in training with Godolphin (think it

    was

earlier this season). Got me thinking that as there is a presumption that his main goal this year would have been another attempt in November that it would have made sense to leave him there with Snowden.

Hi Anthony, how are you going? Great to have you here.

Something’s wrong with that website Gerald.

Lords Ransom was originally with Durrant, then went across to Morgan for a couple of starts, then returned to Durrant.

However owner Bob Peters took all his horses off Durrant in March or April.

Racing Victoria is the accurate one, as it takes the info straight from RISA.

Bill and Symon Wilde now train him – they train Baughurst.

That’s interesting re: Crime Scene! He’s definitely not with Snowden though…

And the trainer definitely mentioned it, the quote I have is something along the lines of Melbourne looks a logical target after either the Doncaster Cup or Ebor Handicap.

Yes, I’ve come across Knight’s mention of Melbourne now. Only read the sportinglife.com report yesterday.

edit: Lonsdale, not Ebor??? Purple Moon same race.

In this thread, we like to cover all aspects of the Melbourne Cup.

Carnival’s over: Cup loses fizz as Moet puts cork in it
    ELI GREENBLAT
    July 30, 2010 – 12:10PM

The bubbly served trackside and in the sumptuous marquees at this year’s Melbourne Cup will still be French, but in a massive break in sponsorship and tradition, the champagne will no longer be poured from Moet & Chandon bottles.

After 15 years as the official champagne of the race that stops a nation, the Victorian Racing Club is set to announce – perhaps as early as this weekend – that rival French label G.H. Mumm will be exclusively cascaded into flutes and served to the thirsty crowds.

G.H. Mumm, whose champagne bottles carry a distinctive red sash, is currently Formula One’s global sponsor and is always at hand for drivers on the podium as they celebrate a top-three finish.

Now it will also be poured out at Flemington and the 150th Melbourne Cup in November as Moet & Chandon is banished from the racetrack entirely to make way for its biggest competitor.

Owned by French beverages giant Pernod Ricard, G.H. Mumm is Australia’s fastest-growing champagne brand and is estimated to be racing ahead at four times industry turnover rates.

It is also the most popular champagne inside France, having knocked Moet off its perch.

The VRC’s deal with G.H. Mumm is the first major sponsorship announcement for the upcoming Melbourne Cup.

In the next few months, other corporates and businesses are expected to unveil their own advertising relationship with the club that oversees the Cup and its related celebrations.

Spokespeople for Moet, G.H. Mumm and the VRC were unavailable for comment.

It is believed Moet will focus its advertising and sponsorship dollars on the global cinema industry, with the champagne appearing in Sex in the City 2 and spruiked by Hollywood actor Scarlett Johansson.

Moet still remains the most popular champagne in Australia. More than one in three bottles of champagne sold in Australia are Moet.

Australia is the 10th-biggest export market for champagne, with just under 3 million bottles – or one bottle for every seven people – of the stuff guzzled, tippled and sprayed on sports podiums during 2009.

In France, the champagne consumption ratio is three bottles for every citizen.

    The race that

    Americain

won at Vichy or wherever a few weeks ago was fairly low key, as it didn’t make the Racing Post database. He is entered in the Prix du Carrousel (Listed) 1m7f, 4yo+ at Deauville this weekend.

The original source I read said Ebor, but the Lonsdale makes more sense.

So perhaps we’ll see Americain amongst the nominations then?

Dunno, I’m ignorant. Jordon, as you know, mentioned him a couple of weeks ago.

    The 8/9yo

    Tokai Match

has just been mentioned on the radio as coming over for the Cups . . .

edit: Sorry, Tokai Trick. Not sure how I transmogrified that.

Comes from a bit back, and has complicated colours.
