Today saw the third of the seasons four Lake races in Germany. The second of the two lake races at the week long Bad Harzburg meeting, todays race saw an unusually large field of 11 take part. Apart from ex-English trained horses Jorveybrook (ex Nicky Richards) and Jades Double (ex Chris Gordon) taking part, the race was noticeable for the appearance of none other than Jamie Moore, who took the ride on the Czech raider Renesh. Although he didn’t win the race, Jamies riding of the lake section is something that is already starting to go down in folklore in Germany. Renesh entered the lake about 9th – and came out in front!!!
You can see the race here, and the lake section begins about 1:40 into the video. Jamie is wearing the black and yellow colours with the black cap (the owner had two horses in the race).

Myself and Christian von der Recke put together an article about lake races for Horse and Hound a couple of months back. In that article, Christian mentioned how great it would be for a top British jockey to make an appearance in a lake race. Today, we got that wish – and the fact that Jamie was riding a horse that had never ran in a lake race before, against seasoned horse and jockey combinations that are lake race veterans proved that even lake race novices can take on the local stars!
Anyone got any ideas what AP McCoy is doing this time next year?
Nice try but that’s not Bad Harzburg. It’s Haydock with a dubbed commentary!
Only half of these fences are portable!! Besides, I doubt they would let Tellwright near the place – he’d probably try and fill the lake in!!!
