Irish,
Haha! Are you a fan of Rail Trip?? His trainer, Ron Ellis is a good guy. The horse didn’t do his best in his last race but he is tough for sure and I am hopeful he will make a decent showing on BC day.

Any other favorites yet??
September 27, 2009 at 12:35 #250349Big big fan of RT as a synthetic specialist – very good horse and hoping he preps against MTB in the Goodwood coming up
October 1, 2009 at 02:14 #251002Rail Link like Zenyatta beat Cocoa Beach with ease, even more so you could say so if Zenyatta is 4/1 then Rail Link is over priced at current odds.

Stardom Bound won the fillies race last year, and the winner of the colts race came 3rd at the BC.
I reckon I can get to listen to them on the radio.Santa Anita provide free videos of races.
There are a lot of trial races next Saturday, I think, so its time to make sure we have our media set up and accessible.
October 4, 2009 at 19:26 #251772If STS heads to this race then Zenyattas people will brick it. You’re havin a laugh if you all think she’s too good for any of the horses over here.
It would be brilliant to see STS up against RVW over a flat 10F !!!
October 5, 2009 at 02:12 #251873Okay, I’ve got a feeling of deja vu that I’ve done this before.
We can watch races from Santa Anita (Oak Tree) live at[/color:3t92svky]
October 5, 2009 at 02:31 #251876Winner of the Oat Leaf (Fillies) (Race 6 on card),
Blind Luck
, was impressive, but not the type to impress Europeans, costing $11,000.
Bedtime. Not too sure whether the colts’ race is in an hour’s time, or was 23 hours ago.
Think it’s in an hour’s time, but I’ll have to catch it tomorrow.
October 5, 2009 at 02:33 #251877Good informative stuff Gerard.
October 5, 2009 at 07:53 #251894Yes PC, I knew in the Spring that we could watch races on calracing, but I only had a mobile internet connection at the time, so I really couldn’t. I hadn’t retried it since I’ve had a wireless internet connection in Ashford, and had rather forgotten about it.
October 6, 2009 at 13:26 #252084Hi AfleetTreet, I will be over in Santa Anita for both days but have to admit that I haven’t really spent too much time studying the cards – still a few weeks yet.
Obviously desperate to see STS take on your best but I think we have enough other runners to get a few wins on the board anyway but I am sure the USA punters know that and the odds will reflect this fact.

It may be blessing that Goldikova lost at the weekend – the UK bookies have relaxed the prices and she should take all the beating – although Europe have put together a really strong team.
I will some thoughts over the next few weeks.
Cheers,
LutherOctober 6, 2009 at 16:15 #252118Zenyatta puts her unbeaten record on the line this Saturday in the $300,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes.
She will renew rivalry with Cocoa Beach, whom she defeated in the BC Ladies Classic last year.
Mine That Bird will also make an appearance on a weekend of BC prep races at Santa Anita.
On a different topic, Black Bear Island, narrowly touched off on his US debut, will compete in an optional claimer tomorrow over one mile before being targeted at the Oak Tree Derby and Hollywood Derby, respectively.
October 6, 2009 at 18:57 #252150With the news that
Gio Ponti
will go for the Classic, now seems an appropriate time to tell the amusing comment I read on the RP site at the weekend:-
The Breeders’ Cup Turf will be run in two divisions this year. One division will remain named the Breeders’ Cup Turf, and the other division will be called the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

On a related theme, I have to admit that I decided several months ago that I will back
Einstein
for whichever race he runs in. I think he is a little bit under-appreciated by people.
October 6, 2009 at 19:25 #252154Yeah, there is huge grumblings among US racing fans that the Classic is a watered down Turf this year. Most can’t wait for it to get back on Dirt next year.
Gio Ponti in the Classic makes sense, he is true 10f horse. His lack of stamina at 12f was very apparent this last weekend in the J. Hirsch at Belmont. He also wouldn’t have the brilliance to win the BC Mile.
October 6, 2009 at 19:56 #252155Gio Ponti in the Classic makes sense, he is true 10f horse. His lack of stamina at 12f was very apparent this last weekend in the J. Hirsch at Belmont. He also wouldn’t have the brilliance to win the BC Mile.
Was it really any lack of stamina that beat Gio Ponti at the weekend? I don’t think so, the finishing time in the race at Belmont at the weekend says it all for me – 2 minutes 41 seconds.
October 8, 2009 at 07:39 #252392Actually, it wasn’t a lack of stamina that got Gio POnti, it was the HORRID weather (monsoon rains) and a soggy turf which he does not prefer…he likes a firmer turf so considering the factors he ran a very good race to finsih 2nd. Now they are sayng he will run in the Classic instead of the Turf.
Old Better Talk Now was a great 12F horse…I sure will miss the old guy now that he has retired.
VERY much looking forward to Zenyatta (who runs this weekend in the Lady’s Secret) and see which race they point her to. Some say the Ladies Classic others say that since they apparently haven’t gotten to the bottom of her yet they may send her to the Classic. I think it depends on how well she comes out of Saturday’s race. SHe is a beast for sure though and it would be awesome to see her attempt the CLassic.
I read that Sea the Stars is most likely not coming and while I can’t say that I anm not disappointed since I will be there this year, the horse is absolutely brilliant and certainly deserves a rest. He is a class act and a thrilling horse to watch. I shall feel completely privileged (and in awe) to see him if they do decide to rbing him over to the States for the Breeder’s Cup. I am VERY excited that Goldi is coming over again this year. There are some very good horses from both sides of the pon to spivce up the races and make the weekend a thrilling experience. Just wish Rachel was coming……Is anyone here planning on attending??
(I’ll have 3 cameras with me so if anyone wants any snapshots of particular horses, just PM me let me know)
October 8, 2009 at 22:28 #252522I’ll be there from the Friday before – the horses arrive on 31st and 1st.
I’m planning to run a Breeders’ Cup tipping competition which has gone down well before – Happy Jack won it last time and won a Breeders’ Cup jacket.
More details nearer the time.
October 11, 2009 at 02:33 #252783Some might think that the 1-2 Coral have available for Zenyatta to win at Santa Anita tonight is generous, but the horses she narrowly defeated on her latest start, Anabaa’s Creation and Lethal Heat, are available at 12/1 and 20/1, respetively.
They got closer to her than anything, and with Cocoa Beach a bit hit and miss lately and stablemate Life Is Sweet well beaten on her last two starts, they’re both well overpriced.
Hopefully Zenyatta will remain undefeated and connections go one step closer to identifying the Classic as her main objective.
Has she peaked? Is she good enough to tackle the best we have to offer?
We’ll know a bit more soon enough…
