I didn’t think I’d see a ride worse than Dan Skelton on Two Taffs yesterday at Sandown, however the ride by Finian o’Toole aboard Maxie T can be only be described as extraordinary or more bluntly a blatant non-trier. Paddy Brennan rode an excellent race on the winner Three of a Kind stealing the race on the final circuit but the jockey never put the favorite in the race and was never going to win. No doubt the connection of Maxie T will give some weak excuse as to what happened and the race will quietly be hushed up by the powers at be.
March 13, 2016 at 16:53 #1237234If Dan Skelton was riding any horse there should be a stewards enquiry, surely weighing in about 2 stone overweight.
March 13, 2016 at 18:23 #1237242You’d struggle to find a more ill-judged ride, a 10 day ban is hardly sufficient.

O’Toole is a 7 lbs claimer and made a mistake. Maxie T is a hold up horse and they might have expected Mountainside (who’d made the running last twice) would’ve carried Maxie T back to the all the way winner. May have also thought Three Of A kind/Brennen had gone off far too strongly. Judging pace isn’t easy for a 7 lb claimer. However, O’Toole made a similar mistake (to a lesser degree) on Maxie T two starts back at Wetherby on 12th Feb, not challenging until too late. It seems O’Toole has quite a bit to learn.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2016 at 08:16 #1237320Why was Maxie T a 2/7 shot.
Looking at my speed figures he ran close to form.
