November 19, 2010 at 01:11 #328587Hi
Spent a few minutes imported into Qlikview. There’s going to be data errors.
First one is line 129844 – 58m 47.4s for 5F ?
Also line 132617.Paddy Power knocked back my £0.37 bet.
November 19, 2010 at 12:08 #328610There going to be data errors.
First one is line 129844 – 58m 47.4s for 5F ?
Also line 132617.I have just spent 4 hours and realised that the Sporting life Database is corrupt.
I have been comparing the results from Stratford-On-Avon meetings in 2003 against Racing Posts data and found that the majority of times in The sporting life’s data are incorrect.
Every race in my database has a link to the race for people to check and if you pick any race from Stratford and check it against the Racing Posts database you will see what I mean.
3 mile races have times recorded of 10minutes when they should be 6mins etc.I have just wasted 3 weeks of my time and now realise that due to corruption of the sporting life’s database I will not be updating the database from now on.
I just hope that nobody has been using the Sporting life’s data in the past to make up their own standard times as I wouldn’t trust them…
Thanks quadrilla for pointing out the errors.
November 19, 2010 at 12:59 #328615Hi
Wonder why nobody noticed this – it took me about 10 minutes ! Perhaps because i’m a professional data expert, have been since 1966.
" Nobody does or will ever supply accurate British or Irish Horse Racing Data "
How can they when, for example, the Ascot 2m 1f Chase course is only 1m 7f 110y !

There’s a challenge Quadrilla – for someone

I have just spent most of the day cleaning up and updating the database, especially all the results from Stratford 2003/2004.
The 5f races that quadrilla pointed out have been corrected, the ones where the winning times were 59mins.
I have added all the formatting to the time columns so if anybody wants to change a racetime the seconds data etc will change automatically.
I will continue to correct any errors I come across.
This is work in progress…Database:

Excel 2007 needed to view .xlsx fileNovember 20, 2010 at 18:36 #328927Getting there.
37 races with "0 ran".
Record 82663.
Time should be 4m 9.50s.
Winner should be Time To Roam (IRE).Record 24656.
Time should be 1m 43.94s and not 0m 43.94s.Can you take your data from RP ? Cos SL is crap!
Paddy Power knocked back my £0.37 bet.
November 21, 2010 at 13:01 #329052I sent an email to The Sporting Life asking if anybody checked the results data and pointed out that 90% of the times from results at Stratford-On-Avon 2003/2004 were incorrect, I have corrected them.
This is the main problem when scraping a website, the parser can only take the data that’s there.

: I have made all the changes you pointed out and updated the file to the 20th Nov.
This file is still "work in progress"…
