The fact remains, that she has only run three times and has now won 2 group 3s and run way below par in a group 1. Not a bad record IMO.
On paper not a bad record but if you look at the form of the first Group 3 its probably the worst pattern race ever run and I agree yesterday was impressive enough visually but the time tells another story. At this stage of the game Bolger almost certainly knows what he has…..
When asked about the 1000 Guineas Bolger replied: "She could go anywhere, I have a couple of others so I will play it by ear. At this stage it is more likely to be Cuis Ghaire."
I think that says it all, I wouldnt be piling in Bullers.
March 30, 2009 at 17:28 #219241I definitely wont be lumping on her, l backer before she ran at longchamp, and am happy to just sit on it. I agree that the round tower wasnt the strongest group3 of last season as it often isnt, but she was stil sent there on debut and did still win, which very few ever manage on debut even in a weak pattern race.
Its also worth remembering that this is Jim Bolger and what he says is going to happen, and what happens arent always the same thing.

I’d consider it to be a ‘shrewd’ bit of placing by Jim Bolger, rather than any indication that the horse is top class, Bulwark. If memory serves Cherokee won a Group 3 on her debut for O’Brien but went on to achieve very little.
March 31, 2009 at 01:13 #219330I’ve been keen on Shimah for a long time. Prendergast said that she is likely to go to Newmarket; I would think that would be ground dependant. She will definitely want and need quick ground to get the mile. Underrated in my opinion.

I was thinking the exact same thing when going through last year’s juvenile form yesterday, Aragorn.
April 10, 2009 at 17:46 #221211Elusive Wave just won very easily under Lemaire at Maisons-Laffite to frank the form of Proportional.
If Proportional does run she must have a massive chance if wintered well

Just what I thought. I’ve just taken some of the 10/1 with VCBet on Proportional. She slammed Elusive Wave last season and Elusive Wave looked really impressive just, travelled well and showed a good turn of foot. I think the form of that race last season is the best juvenile fillies form and if Proportional has trained on she’s way too big at 10’s especially when other firms have her at 6’s.
April 10, 2009 at 21:54 #221237Proportional is the classiest filly in the race, if only connections would
commit her to it! Its hers for the taking! She makes Rainbow view look like
a pony!April 11, 2009 at 00:01 #221253Elusive Wave won today under different tactics to those which saw her beaten by proportional at longchamp. I’m still inclined to believe that Elusive Wave is the better of the pair at 1mile, and I’ll probably be taking Elusive Wave in the Pouliches if she’s a backable price.
Would fancy Proportional more for the Diane.
Elusive Wave would also look a better candidate for newmarket, and considered backing her for it a few weeks ago, but her price was massive enough on the exchanges to suggest she isnt running at Newmarket.

Bul, go to bed! where on earth do you get the notion that Elusive could beat Proportional in a rematch! Proportional toyed with her in the Boussac!
April 11, 2009 at 02:09 #221266Oh dear, I would say it is you who needs to go to bed.
Once agin we shall see in the pouliches.

Good craic Bul, like you say we shall see! i shall take your advice and go to bed! The Ante-post king needs his sleep!
April 11, 2009 at 20:56 #221346I was meaning to ask this question a couple of days ago, but I couldn’t remember whether Proportional was entered at Longchamp or at Saint-Cloud.
Does the fact that she is running tomorrow indicate that they are thinking about the Guineas rather than the Pouliches?
April 12, 2009 at 09:42 #221401No, usually this race is a trial for the pouliches. Should be an interesting race. Proportional is obviously the one to beat but Tamazirte and Soneva could potentially cause an upset. Prices should be interesting.
April 12, 2009 at 14:17 #2214194/7 Proportional for the Grotte
I’m firmly in the belief she will be seen to best effect when stepped up beyond a mille. Today should be interesting to watch, all the form points back to her that i could work out and with her Boussac win you’d expect she’ll win. Never a formality though as we all know so for me it’s sky plus and a re-eee wind

Agree. She looks like she lengthens more than quickens and the way she finished off a strong gallop the last day shows she’s more of a stamina horse who could well be vulnerable to a speedier type if they send her to Newmarket. I also think the Boussac because of recent winners receives a high profile these days but last years didn’t look that strong and may be over factored into her price. Thats not to say she wont do the biz today in a weakish looking Group 3.
April 12, 2009 at 17:39 #221445You guys that have backed something other than Proportional for the 1000gns had better hope she stays in France! Even if she is as fit as Naaqoos was the other day she should still win comfortably today! It
would be perfect timing to run her in our Guineas after today though!
There is far more prestige in winning our 1000 gns than the French version
so if she is as good as i think she is Madame Head will send her here to
prove that point! -
