Santa Barbara is priced up like a sure thing despite only having won a maiden

Not my style to be betting purely on stable talk

Prefer to go through the top level 2yo form

That is proper racecourse evidence, couldn’t be betting at these short prices just because of a nice quote from a stable tour

Anyone on at big prices then fair enough :good:

Yeah, no one can say she won’t win.Just to give some context from what i remember at this time of year not so long ago.

    Minding was 10/1
    Winter was 40/1
    Love was 16/1 at least.

Does anyone have the dates for the Djebel and Imprudence this year?

Can scarcely believe this Santa Barbara – 5/2 favourite, what on earth??

Won a maiden, with an awkward looking head carriage, and is a Camelot who will surely want a bit further? Crazy price.

As AOB has said about Santa Barbara “She looks like a 5 year old colt” and “She just toys with horses in her work. We’re very excited by her”, its understandable that the money has been going on.

He was quite keen about Love last year. I ignored all that, and she won.

In fairness Mike if you backed everything Listen O’Brien waxed lyrical over you’d be doing nowt with your life but shovelling cash on every 2 or 3yo Ballydoyle horse in training. If it wins it wins, but it couldn’t possibly do for me at all. Only won a maiden, I didn’t like the head carriage either.

Depends on what gets said during the wax lyrical process for me, and then deciding, after looking at the alternatives/opposition.

Fair enough Mike. ‘Even So’ is a Camelot out of a Danehill Mare too, and she definitely needed 12f as a 3yo. I’m personally not particularly interested in what Listen tells us to hype a Coolmore stallion, Santa Barbara is a nuts price for a maiden winner. I don’t consider ‘Love’ a viable comparison either, she was a Group 1 winning 2yo over 7f.

5-2 may well look a decent price once the race is over. ;-)

    No it wont

Even if she wins by 5 lengths it’s still no value at all

Just watched her maiden win and I can see what you mean about her head carriage

She holds her head very high

She did win very easily and did look a very tall filly

Yes, and how hot a maiden was it? The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th all remain Maidens to date. Yes I didn’t like the high head carriage at all – and if she is so massive how is she going to handle the dip? And I don’t like the pedigree for a Guineas at all – and The Curragh over a mile is a stiff enough Maiden trip to aim at as a juvenile for a supposed Guineas horse.

This is 5/2 purely based on Listens media comments it seems to me. That is crazy – the bloke is a Coolmore marketing tool, this has been proven time and time again for years. “So much speed, never had one like him / her, blah blah” its the same every season. Who’s to say they aren’t starting a PR ‘push’ on Camelots (supposed / hopeful) versatility now that Galileo is really knocking on in years?

I would agree I’ve never seen a worse AP price – certainly for a Classic. The more I look at it the crazier it seems. If it hacks up it hacks up, she can happily do so without a sheckle of mine lumbering her.

O Brien does indeed like advertising the coolmore sires during his interviews, specially in the after race interview
