Think Drone has it about right having Norman as a capable jockey. Personally I would have someone like Mark Dwyer above him. Jonjo was overrated for me, I would have the likes of McCoy, Francome, Dunwoody and Scu well in front of him. Compare the meal he often made of riding a finish on the likes of Sea Pigeon and Little Bay to when Francome won on those horses.

John Francome has always said that the best jockey never to be champion was Jeff King. From what I remember of him I would agree with that.

The Colonel has been sacked – might have been best to get him to return the campaign bus first as he seems to have nicked it – and Chezza’s campaign is already in ruins.

No disgrace in losing to Alan, there’s only so much you can do against a madman with a tree-felling axe, but being beaten by Hughesey (again!) is too awful to contemplate.

And still not even being sure of making the frame as Mr Scary Avatar is disputing fourth!

Chezza’s going to have to delve deep into “Chezza’s Christmas Bumper Book Of Dirty Tricks,” available in all good bookshops for £666, to turn this one around.

Still, it’s never over til it’s over!

    Chezza’s not done with yet!

The asparagus proving highly problematic. For all the effort not much to show for three days of heavy toil. Planks went to bonfire on Monday before I could salvage them. Titanic struggle with a crown yesterday. stuck in the mud trying to retrieve crowns.
Will give it one more go tomorrow.
Mike the camera visited today and held meeting with owner of print firm. Very informative and lots of good advice offered. Very positive meeting.
Radio appearance and got to choose two records. Bullet the blue sky u2 and sweet sounds of heaven Rolling Stones.
I got to go over the whole reckoning behind the exhibition and how the start of this thread was the catalyst the spark to wanting to add another tree 🌲 to replace the two lost in that “earlier time”. How a pile of poo will be as important an installation as any other on the guide trail. If the tree was the catalyst the final spark came from Sarah Figlio’s bold interaction with her map challenge to me. It opened up a huge doorway and here I am and explain it all fully to a businessman made all the sense in the world today. His understanding of my message was plain but his message to me was look after number one and he presented me with a great analogy concluding never leave yourself totally short if you’ve identified a value you must ensure your family don’t go hungry as a direct result.
Mike and I also nipped into the Saint Philip’s Christmas lunch for a quick sausage roll and mince pie. We were made very welcome.
The felsto arms took a couple of pints of my custom and this song sums up eloquently my time there. Went in with a good mate and covered lots of ground in conversation health and happiness and schemes and dreams all covered and how to keep partners happy!!
The stones album has been the feature and it is an excellent piece of rock material they’ve pulled one out of the hat here.
This song covers the last few weeks and where my passions run flowing freely..

    Race Date 23rd December 2023

This competition will run until late April/ or early May depending on when the National Hunt season ends.

    Rules

1 Everyone is welcome, just make an entry below.

2 Two different selections must be made, one win and one each way.

3 It is strongly suggested that reserves be made. Remember these will only come into effect if you have non runners, and also the order written.

4 Scores will be update weekly, (old score – stake + winnings = new score).
The stake will be either 0 points if no selections are left, 50 points for 1 runner, 100 points for both runners. Any winnings will include their stake unit back, like what you get back from a bookies.

5 Selections can be updated/ Amended before the off time of the race, but please make a new post. If you do then I will use the latest post only.

6 The each way part will be calculated at quarter odds.

7 Number of places I will use will be :

Handicaps of up to 20 runners, will be normal number of places.
Handicaps of 21 to 24 runners 5 places
Handicaps of 25 to 28 runners 6 places
Handicaps of 29+ runners 7 places

Should the be a non runner reducing the number of places, I will use the original number of runners in the field as stated in the morning papers.

8 A win selection will have a 50 point win on it
An each way selection will have a 25 point each way on it at quarter odds.
The will be a free forecast at 1 point, for those getting first and second (either way) which I will use racing post details for payout.
For fun I will keep a track on successful outsiders (whether it wins or placed)

9 An alternative race will be made at another venue, this should only be used if the main race venue gets cancelled. Sometimes it might be earlier than the original race so keep an eye on that.

Main Race is 3.35 Ascot Betfair Exchange Trophy

The reserve race is 3.10 Lingfield

A brilliant performance and clearly the future is very bright indeed for him but 8/1 is a bit of an overreaction I think.

With each round the pressure and expectation ramps up and if he makes it to the quarters then it’s a likely meeting with Price or Anderson both of whom have been there and done it.

I am not writing him him completely off, just saying that the odds are skinny. Think Becker winning Wimbledon at 17, these things have been done. Perhaps the blissful ignorance of youth can be a help. And £50k for the quarters if he gets there isn’t bad, more than most people have made all year!

As soon as the nominations are posted and the poll begins, “The Chezzabus,” the official campaign bus, will be setting off on tour.

It will be driven by Col Archaius Tory who believes the drink-drive laws are for those who weren’t privately educated and he has a crate of Mackeson, Hennessy Cognac and Black & White Whiskey under his driver’s seat as his constant companions on the TRF road.

Attempts will be made to run over all the other candidates – it’s going to be a nasty campaign.

    Week 4 Update

Only one horse made any difference to the placings in the TRF league and that
was Protectorat who was 3rd in a h’cap last Saturday. It scored 2.60 and therefore
only caused a minor ripple with about half a dozen having him in their stable.
Nonetheless it saw Green’s Gallopers nudge up a place to 3rd. well done Green’s,
it wasn’t a whopping score but he has speculative entries in the Ryanair (33/1)
and the Gold Cup (66/1). I think he would need to come on a ton being realistic,
but you never know. Another Norton’s Coin could be in the offing. Edging closer
    Green’s, keep it up :good:

Goodfellow was the only other mover in the top 10, moving up from 7th to 5th.
It shows how tight it is in the top 10 when 2.60 points can cause a move of
2 places. Nice one Goodfellow and as I keep saying, all points could be crucial
come Grand National day. He could be a useful addition :good:

So a few days of not spectacular racing although a decent card at Ascot on
Saturday. The long walk hurdle has a few horses of interest in certain stables
and it will be a tough race to pick the winner with the likes of Champ, Crambo,
    Dashel Drasher and Paisley Park.

Tuesday has the big one, the King George and as I have Bravemensgame in just
about every competition I’m hoping he goes well. Allaho is capable of putting
    them all in their place.

Whatever your backing or whatever you have in your stable I wish you the
very best of luck and have a great Christmas and New Year :good:

Right apsparagus extraction removing ten to fifteen year old crowns when the planter made them a bed fit for the burial of kings is a right old challenge. They simply don’t just “come out “.

Starting this mainly to highlight the ‘French’ challenger, Il Est Francais, now that he’s a confirmed entry. Trained and raced in France, but with an English trainer, Noel George (and partner), and 50% English owned.

A high class hurdler, winner of 5 of his 6 starts, including the 4yo hurdle championship Grade 1 race in November 2022. Had some time off after his defeat in March in a prep race for the French Champion Hurdle, which he missed as a result. Switched to chasing this autumn and has won both starts in some style. The latest was a 5yo only Listed race over 4,400m at Auteuil, in which he made all and was never challenged. You can watch this here:

    https://www.equidia.fr/courses/2023-11-12/R1/C1

Noel George has arranged for three UK style fences to be provided at his French training ground and is very confident about his horse coping with the challenge of running at Kempton. The key difference is that all his runs to date, hurdle and chase, have been at left handed Auteuil.

Paul Nicholls has entered Hermes Allen and he seems likely to be the best of the home trained runners. Willie Mullins has two entries, Grangeclare West and Klassical Dream, both of whom also have an entry in a Grade 1 over 2M 4f at Limerick next week. Gordon Elliott has entered his French bred 5yo, Imagine, who is untried at the trip and has an entry in a 2M 1f Grade 1 novice at Leopardstown on Boxing Day.

I’m really sorry to report that we lost Madame Florence today – Victor’s mare who was having her first hurdles start. Ross took a heavy fall but he was ok. Very sad for Vic as she was a kind filly and he had high hopes for her 🖤 Never any easier 😞

The quickest 14/1 winner anywhere in the world. 28/1 if you were stateside.
As I said before leaving you in the capable hands of Mick jagger and Lady GaGa, I’m beating the bookies happily now. Very refined betting now!
The draw and a three year old’s allowance adjusted significantly for the shorter distance. No one will ever pay attention to the physics aspect of racing and the free energy factor and that is good for me. esteemed forumites say they know better and prefer to slavishly conform to conformity and convention and that will ever be thus. Tio mio and cafe con lecce have both come in at 40/1 on the punter’s lounge. (Where you get likes 👍 and feedback and criticism and scepticism in equal measure). I have sussed it out now and no longer have any need to go on like because like TESLA before me no-one actually cares because it doesn’t match CONVENTIONAL WISDOM or the thinking of the day. The same Animal farm thinking which convicts innocent people such as the post office sub masters the same animal farm thinking that keeps those responsible for that scandal safe and at large. The same Animal farm thinking that told us “we were all in this together” during covid and convicted the Birmingham seven. I’m no longer going to mention it because it is irrelevant that I believe in it is particular to me and me alone.
The weight and the draw and the fact that they were running in a straight line, meant that the horse could be held up and still win comfortably even over this briefest of trips….
Today has been a watershed as I said earlier and a simple “all persons bulletin “ email revealed a huge quantity of free goods available at a house locally despite working all day at the allotment refining my leave mulch store and enjoying that most British of traditions; the Bonfire 🔥. I was the first to respond to the “invitation to treat “ which requires the person to call on a house in person to ask for Asparagus crowns, hundreds of daffodil bulbs and various bulbs of all descriptions all “free to a good home”. I’ve often wondered just how I’d get by with the cost of running a large allotment and the truth is there is none. I’m given everything for nowt and I give freely too. When I call in on the fellow allotment holder She tells me I’m the first to call. The email went out to all association members this morning. It is just before sunset and a visit to this house reveals a garden allotment being dismantled and turned over to grass lawn to cut down on maintenance. I come away with an agreement to return and remove a quarter of a massive Asparagus bed. I’m given hundreds of displaced Daffodil bulbs, Some wonderous looking dug up hybrid teas and climbers. There is a huge pile of wood from dismantled pergolas and raised beds my own raised bed planks or at the end of their usefulness and I agree to come back and sort though the massive pile of wood as I’ll be taking it all away to the allotment to set up all of my beds at Victoria street and on the main allotment. I cannot return tomorrow ( Monday) as it is Darkie’s funeral at the seven Hills in the morning. One last job today when I did the Santa run with the Rotary club last week I met a delightful Lady with a lovely courtyard garden I thought I recognised her but didn’t say as I wasn’t sure. Anyway instead of Rudolph conversation centered around her abstract garden 🪴 and the lights festooned all around her trees 🌲
and inevitably conversation swung towards the Hospice flowers and bouquets. I told her I’d make her a bouquet and leave it for her at the shop to collect and pay for there. “what’s your name? I’ll tell them at the shop “.
Cathy she shouted as I rushed out of the gate because Rudolph was about five hundred yards up the road and fading gently out of sight as the night’s collecting was coming to an end.
“Cathy come Home then !!”I cried to shrieks of laughter from the lady

Little did I know I’d be staring in an episode of the dectectorists instead in the grounds of s huge mansion out in the sticks.
Although I’d got “Cathy “ the cuttings for her bouquet, I’d simply run out of time and it remained in my kitchen all weekend so Sunday night at last was an opportunity to return to Cathy’s house with a bouquet specially made up. She was absolutely delighted with them when I called round at 1900 hours with a nice winter bouquet dried crisp transparent brown hydrangeas from kirton with grass heads and a beautiful chocolate wrapper purple quality street Berries. “Mick my husband will love these.” Mick was sitting in the living room and we were in the kitchen. I love “yarning and chewing the cud”. It is also called Jossing in Suffolk speak I’m not rural enough to have much dialect and working with so many different folk over the years from all over Britain my strong Ipswich accent has been totally diluted into an estuary twang which seems more London than anything but the Suffolk bits often return after familiarity kicks in and I’ll wax away in my native brogue again.
Suddenly Cathy mentions that she and her Husband Mick used to run “the Hamilton tearooms years ago” the penny drops and I rush into the living Room “Mick!!!” It’s only Mick the owner of the tearoom and landlord of “Chuffers” the train station Buffet at great Eastern Square. It was s massive suprise for all of us that we knew each other.

    HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Those with the fourth placed (Clear White Light) and nearly scored was Triptych and John Gooch.

While 007Canfordcliffs and Michael Walsh had the third place (Rare Edition) as their win choice.

Finally the players who had horses who made the frame, but didn’t score because they were in reserve was:

Robnorth, Triptych and myself had Geromino (the winner)

Landafar had the runner up (First Impression)

John Gooch and Steve75 had the third (Rare Edition)

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.

Been looking at a few bigger ones here.

Not completely ruling out A Plus Tard, but fellow Cheveley horse, Classic Getaway looks the pick of them, and certainly well found by Grass.

I’m still hoping Stattler goes for Aintree, but back on song, I think he’d actually go well here, while I’m hoping Coko Beach takes his chance here in February.

I’ve bet Hewick for Kempton, but this just looks tailor made for him too. I do like an Antepost in this though, and sensible head on, that 10’s for Conflated looks wrong, as does the 33’s for Banbridge, and I’ll almost certainly bet them if they go (and possibly earlier) but went for Churchstonewarrior 150’s EW

He’s the outsider for a reason, but I think 150’s is just too big. He unseated early doors on seasonal re-appearance, but not too big a leap of faith to think he’s improved on last year, where he ran to a decent standard.

Conflated at 10’s my actual main fancy, and Banbridge now looks the best outsider, but Churchstonewarrior the first bet

    Banbridge
    Conflated
