Thanks Rob V
The thing that really impressed me the most about the Queen Anne performance (probably something that gets lost in the 147 Timeform rating and 11L win) was the fact that from the 3F to the 2F pole he clocked a sectional of 10.58s (reaching a top speed of 42.5mph) and that was on officially good to soft ground (probably closer to good) where he was, I believe just 0.69s off the course record whilst also losing a shoe in the process.
To put that particular sectional time into perspective, not one of the sprinters who ran in the next race, the 5F Kings Stand Stakes (which included the winners of 4 Nunthorpe’s, 2 Abbaye’s and an Al Quoz sprint), were able to match that sectional time, which he did in a race over a 8F!
Many suggested that he could have won G1s from 6F to 12F and whilst he never did do any of that (nor would he have ever been asked to), given the insane performances that we did see him put up, I think most would agree that it wouldn’t have been overly shocking if he had as he seemed to make you believe that most things were possible with him.
Fyi, another eye opening fact from that 2000g win was that in a field of 13 runners on good to firm ground over one mile the distance between Frankel and last horse was……….62L!
