You can find many examples in many different sports of individuals having all the talent in the world but lacking the actual fundamental application of said talent and as a result not reaching the heights their talents suggest they could.

Having great talent with an average apllication or fundamentals (jumping technique in this case) can work (as it did for Majborough at the DRF) far more than having great application but little talent to go with it – talent can offset quite a bit but there is always a limit and that is starting to be the case more often than not with Majborough.

Every so often he just might put it altogether and win a big race but he is worryingly making the same type of mistakes each time but considering just how many he does make, it is surprising that he has still yet to actually fall.

When he gets in close (like at the 3rd last) he tends to actually just go through the fence (landing back legs first) rather than going over it, thus lowering the risk of falling and when he is very long he tends to land either on top of the fence or barely over it, which is the type of mistake which would more likely unseat the rider (due to the large deceleration in speed) rather than making him falling.
