family voting is a new term to me as well. It is where people force or coerce family members into voting a certain way. It was allegedly witnessed yesterday. As a criminal offence, whoever witnessed it should presumably have reported it to the police.
Not a term I was aware of either. Not entirely sure but I think coercion to vote a certain way is only a criminal offence within the polling station, when a family member – or anyone – accompanies the voter to the polling booth and tells them who to vote for. Presumably this is what was observed.
Anyway, a pleasing result though like all by-election results not one to be taken too literally as a ‘seismic shift in the political landscape’ or to be dogmatically extrapolated to the next general election.
