I have to say that’s a bigger margin than I expected, well done Greens and Ms Spencer.
The result was not a massive shock as a couple of us said a while ago. Quite simply, Labour’s left wing voters from 2024 didn’t become, to borrow a phrase, RWNJ overnight. They went out and voted for a party that is on the left.
Worth noting that Spencer is the daughter of a nurse, left school at 16 to become a plumber and also recently became a qualified plasterer. More working class credentials than the entirety of Reform put together.
nwalton, family voting is a new term to me as well. It is where people force or coerce family members into voting a certain way. It was allegedly witnessed yesterday. As a criminal offence, whoever witnessed it should presumably have reported it to the police. Certainly nothing was mentioned before the polls closed when officials could possibly have looked into it further.
The implication is that it primarily happens amongst Muslims although quite why anyone in Reform thinks that Muslim women would vote for them if their husbands didn’t force them to vote for someone else is beyond me.
To be clear, if this is going on then of course it should be stopped but that’s for the various authorities to investigate. There’s no way it’s swung the contest by 4.5k votes though.
