It looks like Lammy will have to back down on his insane plan to scrap jury trials. Aside from being unpopular with just about everyone, the stated reason for the change – that it will save time and clear the backlog – is without foundation. A study has shown it will save 2% of court time.
The dropping of this dangerous proposal will be more than welcome but is this government capable of announcing anything and sticking to it?
