I really like the way Knockara Beau jumps, I think he has an outside chance in this to upset a few.
Surely Diamond Harry would have been better continuing over the hurdles this season, aiming him at the World Hurdle in March rather than the Arkle?

I like Dunguib and have been suitably impressed with all his performances.

My big concern is that alot of people were saying the same sort of things about Cousin Vinny (myself included) last year.

I don’t think this race is as cut and dry as the odds suggest.

Nicola Horlick has had her day, she had to close her last venture and announce her retirement from active management, she has made that much of a mess.

Better to focus on a multi-strategy macro approach, like Soros! I’d imagine him to be a good horse-picker!

Guy in my work completely ignores the form and follows the money on Oddschecker and seems to do quite well.

My only problem with this method is you don’t really know why you are backing the horse, other than for the reason everyone else is (ie. psychologists call it ‘Herding’ behavoir).

What a performance by the Tank.

Also, what a price at 9/2.

Credit for the run must go to Niche Market who could be a good bet if entered for the National.

Sorry for my naivety but it says that Carruthers is withdrawn as he ‘scoped dirty’ and may need antibiotics.

I have no idea what this means. Any help?

Thanks, that is interesting. What a life Mr Smith has had then, making his fortune from golf and racing. I think he might be my hero!

Ha Ha no, I was just searching online but cannot find out any history on Mr Smith. I only ask about him as he is quite high profile with Kauto and MM.

I’m sure he’s not just doing it for the fun of it. I don’t think Dave’s the type to think to himself "well Comply or Die improved with the blinkers… so everyone must!" I’m sure there’s methods behind his…. apparant madness.

Agree. I just think that it may confuse the horses. I appreciate Comply or Die won the national with blinkers but look at some of his best horses performances with them on this season (Osana/Ashkazar).
In fact, the more I think about it…Does every David Johnson runner with David Pipe wears blinkers?

The green one, as you put it has nothing at all to do with Harry Findlay. The Dark Green, White "V", Check Cap, Light Green Sleeves are those of Paul Barber, first made famous by the exploits of that wonderful chaser Artifice. Strictly speaking, Harry has no colours registered to him at all.

Sorry, my mistake. Barber and Findlay are on a rotation with their colours aren’t they. Are the white colours of Findlay/Bloom any relation?

Harry Findlay’s – The green one and not the purple one!

I like The Stewart Family colours too.

Khalid Abdullah – reminds me of Dancing Brave and Godolphin’s are classy.

    I like this question.

Fits well with my day job. Value investing vs. Growth investing.

Like fund management, you can potentially gain alot more from ‘growth stocks’ than value. This can obviously be the case with horses.

I tend to be a value man, so I like to get as much data on previous runs as possible and find some read-across information. Therefore, I tend to agree with davidbrady.

Initially I always backed horses with CD next to their name, and although this tactic works on occassion it can prove misleading.

It comes down to a ‘margin of safety’. If the horse is proven and the price is too big relative, then you buy. If not, sell.

I have a slight issue with David Pipe.

It seems he is too keen to put the blinkers on underperforming runners. I appreciate that this tactic has worked well on the odd occassion, but not for the majority? Any views?

Gutted, I had the choice of Franchoek and Tazbar on Friday evening and guess what one I went with…
