Well the original plan was to retire him after this race, win, lose or draw. However, Hayes is contemplating a start in the July Cup, which wont suit him at all.

He isnt a cox plate horse. He is a sprinter, nothing else. Niconero was a very good horse during the latter stages of his career. 1000/1200m a dry track, long straight, a clear run and Nicconi is near unbeatable. This run doesnt justify how good he is/was.

In terms of comparison to our other aussie champions (I am Australian) Takeover Target clearly is the best we have sent over to the UK. He was tough and fought it out very hard. The other winners were placed to perfection and were at the peak of their powers (Choisir, Miss Andretti and Scenic Blast)

Wouldnt worry about Naval Escort. He isn’t up to Mebourne Cup standard. Sterling Prince is a nice type from NZ, but again, I dont think he is good enough to win. I think the ones to watch are Faint Perfume, a filly from the Bart Cummings stable and an Oaks winner over 2500m, Linton, who is a very promising Lloyd Williams galloper, Shoot Out, a Queenslander with so much ability, culminating with an AJC derby win, Dariana, who was so impressive beating the boys in the QLD derby, Jessicabeel, who was very impressive in the Sydney Cup over 3200m and Keyora, a kiwi who looks a real chance with maturity.

Yeah Gerald, that was Nathan Berry. A bit unlucky for him because he is a very good upcoming rider in the Sydney riding ranks.
