    1.28 Uttoxeter
    House of Hapsburg.
Must have been 30-40 lengths behind going into the second circuit, looking like it was never going well. Yet won by a street.
Do any of our distinguished posters think Townsend would have won that race?
He is in a class of his own.

CAS, Olly Murphy has 136 winners this season at 23%. The majority will have been ridden by SB and if Murphy can maintain this number/strike rate, it will virtually guarantee SB the championship. Admittedly SB has said he wants more high profile winners, but surely Murphy and Skelton will assume the mantel of Henderson and Nicholls in the next few years. Nicholls has had far more moderate horses this season.

Bowen isn’t close to Townend? That’s debatable with respect.
Given the quality of horses that Townend rides for a stable with unchallenged mastery on both sides of the Irish Sea, I suggest that there’s a dozen jockeys who would look equally competent. But there are few if any who can match Bowen at winning on a reluctant horse in a class 5 hurdle race at Uttoxeter or Plumpton.

Agreed. His strength in a finish is phenomenal. One poster on here is touting him to replace Jack Kennedy. No! We want him riding in this country.
I heard him speaking to an owners’ group after their horse finished fourth at Ludlow. Came across really well, articulate and not in the least sumptuous.

Talking of plodders beating Rolls Royces, I nominate Cool Ground beating The Fellow by a short head in 1992. I’m talking through my pocket of course as I had 33/1 ante-post. It’s not clear how I came to make the bet; I think it was the exoticness of Doumen/Kondrat and the name, The Fellow, just resonated.
Swap the jockeys and the placings would certainly have been changed!
