Pinza I apologise for the delay in the response to this thread I’ve been out of the country fro some time Well said About Dandino he has been a revelation this season for a horse bead to be a Hurdler I can’t wait to see him in the flesh on the 10th July.
Not good news I’m afraid West Yorkshire police have confirmed a body was recovered from the river Aire in central Leeds yesterday formal id expected later.
Thank you Coggy
She needs all the help she can get but she really is a little fighter & has a great temprement despite everything she been through.
We know she’ll never make the race course but if New Approach makes the grade as a sire she’s going to be a great broodmare & with a bit of luck will speand her life in the loving & expert care of the Camacho’s.
The emotion in maurice’s voice as he explained all the problems she’s had brought a lump to the throat.
It’s been said that she should be named sooner rather than later so any suggestions for something strong that describes her spirit & will to live would be great.
I’m pleased to say that I had a lovely Day at Star Cottage yesterday.
Avro Anson looks as well as ever & successfully mugged me for half a packet of polo’s Dancing Bay taking care of the remainder.Maurice did try telling us Avro was 19 years old again !!!
Could everybody please say a prayer for a Little New Approach ex Kalinka filly foal who has been very poorly since the day she was born but has an incredible will to live to make it this far against all odds.
great to see him looking so well. although he doesn’t so impressed with the santa hat !!
does the little fella have a name yet ?
Langton Wold was the last place i saw dessie in the flesh He’d just carted mark Dwyer for about 3 furlongs.
He was silohetted on top of the hill as I was stood on the opposite side I saluted him & said goodbye old friend we’ll not meet again.
I love it up there & am really looking forward to a visit to Star Cottage Stables next month to see Avro Anson & Dancing Bay.
It’s only 45 minute drive from home which is great.
1990 Mr Frisk for me . If memory serves Frisky still holds the course record time. 1997 as well for the Monday running if nothing else it prooves US Brits don’t let Terrorists stop us.
Thanks carvillshill I’m pleased to say Avro Anson is alive & well sharing a field with Dancing Bay at Star cottage in Malton i just couldn’t remember what year he was born I’ll be feeding him polos in the next few weeks.

Thanks for reminding me of Dato Star I was lucky enough to meet him in his stable in malton on a couple of occasions I remember telling him to bite Istabraq’s bum at the start of the champion hurdle & then he’d be in with a chance of winning !!! Broke my heart when he was killed.
Rip Dato Star
God bless Toppy
So many old friends mentioned in this thread & I can’t agree with a previous comment that we’re wallowing in sadness. As Moehat said we are remembering old friends & honouring their greatness.
Kadount was upsides Matey when he had his heart attack & I just knew he’d gone before the screens went up.
As long as we talk about them they will not be forgotten.
RIP
One Man
Mack the Knife
Gloria Victis
Nick Dundee
Best Matefor me One Man & Gloria Victus stick in the mind I remember watching Gloria being loaded into the ambulance & how brave he was being. I was at work when One Man was killed at Aintree & it broke my heart.
I was given a tribute to Dessie a while back & when I looked one of the photos was actually One Man it has pride of place in the kitchen & i often find myself talking to the boys as i cook.I’d like to echo Moehat’s sentiment we all know the risks involved but we all love the horses for me one of the hardest losses of recent times was Nil Desperandum He looked every inch a future national winner when he was lost in the midlands national it was hard for me to run the sweepstake that year with his name missing, the ERC lost Inherent at Wetherby & that really hurt as I had high hopes for her as a future broodmare.
We know the Risks but for true fans the love of the horse in paramount I didn’t have a single bet on Cheltenham & the highlight of the festival was Ruby cantering Kauto home after his horrid looking fall.
Dunquib until proven otherwise !!!!
all I can say is thank god he’s ok best sight at cheltenham today was ruby cantering him back down the course
best sight at cheltenham today Ruby & Kauto cantering home thank god he’s ok.
