It really is no mystery why the viewers are leaving in droves .. Take todays eclipse day show, the main host can’t be botherd to turn up so we have to put up with persad presenting, mick Fitzgerald knows naff all about flat racing but there he is in the "experts" chair and even their main betting person wasent there.
Then when we get to the eclipse they show a race from haydock 20mins before, show little of the horses in the paddock and the go off air 15mins after the race leaving no time to look back on what was an interesting race to say thevleast!
It could and should be so much better,it’s like they’ve given up.Does anyone know if newbury is now run by ARC ?
Tonight’s flat meeting has less prize money than the summer jumps card at Newton abbot!
Well done to the abbot but I think it’s more a reflection of where newbury is nowadaysJune 22, 2014 at 22:04 in reply to: Big blow for Channel 4 Racing as Derby only pulls in 1.5m #483729The good news is that the over rated balding is not on ch4 again until the ebor meeting so the figures should go up!
Would have been even better if they didn’t have show the gaff racing from away meetings.
What this week has shown is that lydia hyslop is worth ten Clare baldings and long may she shine.June 20, 2014 at 20:47 in reply to: Big blow for Channel 4 Racing as Derby only pulls in 1.5m #483346I’m sure Clare balding has her plus points but I would much rather see the horses in the paddock then her stomping around annoying people.
Can you imagine what the midweek racing would be like between May and October without summer jumping?
On their long awaited debut at the royal meeting on Tuesday ruk will interrupt ascot to show bags racing from thirsk!
Wouldn’t it be better if they didn’t show the away meetings on big days until the racing review? It’s not just the flat Alan,on a couple of days in the winter the newbury prize money was less than little Ludlow !
Not to mention the fact that they no longer let you stroll into the middle of the course to stand by the fences, still you never know mr thick might turn things around there but I fear the damage has been done.June 8, 2014 at 18:43 in reply to: Big blow for Channel 4 Racing as Derby only pulls in 1.5m #481686We’ll,if this doesn’t make them change the flawed format then nothing will and they will have to do something or ch4 racing will be gone at the end of the contract.
It is all about the HORSES not the people and they need to understand that because they haven’t attracted new viewers and at the same time driven away the existing ones!
As for derby day itself you can’t blame the papers for the given it top billing when the wooden tops at the bha insist on drowning the race with so many away meetings.Don’t worry Nathen I’m sure her highness miss balding will be calling it the "greatest meeting in the world" even though none of its races are a highlight of the flat season let alone anything else but it must be half decent if she is bothering to turn up given that she can’t be arsed to do the eclipse, king George and goodwood this year!
I read somewhere that the nature of the meeting has changed since the rebuild and it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens to Cheltenham when it’s new stand is finished in 2016.Sounds like it might be curtains for flat racing at Warwick then
Why do all the timeform pundits that are on ATR both look and sound like they’ve just left school?
The Problem I have with ATR is that some barnpot decided to stop showing the racing review uninterrupted every morning and replace it with racing news every hour repeating the same as an hour before.
Having Said that they did a fine job of punchestown and their website is excellent. So next week when there’s a group one at newbury the presenters will be at York?
Would it really be the end of the world if on a big day RUK showed just the big meeting and the rest in racing review after racing?
As it stands they will have to interrupt the first day of royal ascot with the egg and spoon races from thirsk!
As for Matt Chapman,he would be perfect for the morning line. We’ll you got to give 10/10 for sandown yesterday 12000 crowd and it was so much better have in full card to watch instead of having to go home after 4 races.
Sadly I witnessed a moron openly urinating in the car park after racing which made me glad I don’t set foot on racecourse until November when it’s way to cold for these inbreds to attendSadly racecourses can do what the hell they like these days as shown by haydock ripping up its chase course, using trolley fences but still being allowed to stage a grade one chase on what is now a gaff track,so no surprise that Kirkland tellaporkie said he "understands" what wetherby are doing.
