As we are in the middle of the flat season are there any flat horses that look potentially useful for the NH sphere ?
Harold Kirk was spotted wandering around the July course last week and Eddie O’Leary was at the Curragh on Derby weekend…they obviously arent sleeping with NH in summer season

The idea of commentary, across all sports, is somewhat removed from the action itself…the silence of the horses hoofs against the surface and talk amongst jockeys mid race is probably as far removed a reality from verbal commentary most associate with a race as you can get…maybe both the gap between valid in race detail available and time for interpretation of race mechanics / perception of unknowns is too big a barrier to bridge for commentary to engage the viewer in horse racing ?
Some attempts have been made across terrestrial TV with in race commentary by analysts but the task is almost rendered impossible with the lack of data they have to work from.
I always think of Formula 1 with the split second sectional differences (Hamilton is gaining ground on the leader at .2 seconds a lap etc) and driver audio to engineers as a general barometer to measure horse racing against.

Also the reason this has been put into the Irish racing thread is as the thread is (in the main) looking at the amalgamation of British and Irish racing on RUK from 2019 and the knock on effect to ATR it is relevant to address whether the stations are actually interested in quality horse racing in general or developing something equivalent to a BAGS service

Hi Kris, maybe I am being overly sensitive here but I do actually find your post quite racist and would imagine most objective people would also, not that I really care however, its just I find it gets in the way of the real point of the question.

To address the main thrust of your post (although it doesnt really merit it in my opinion as you gave no back up for your ridiculous argument other than you find French racing dull), If the French jumps scene is non existant why has every major jumps trainer in Britain and Ireland completely pillaged it of its best talents? Kauto Star and Long Run are two that come to mind immediately but of course you could have Farclas, winner of yesterdays Triumph, two time Foxhunter winner Pacha Du Polder (It sounds a bit foreign doesnt it) and Grand Annual winner Le Prezien winner of the Grand Annual who started life in Auteuil…you can go through the rest of the card yourself to see where the winners were sourced but the question is still valid imo.
Personally I wouldnt mind having a look at the Group 3 in Saint Cloud today Air Pilot won or some decent maidens with a full sister to Solow winning for the Werheimers in Chantilly on Thursday than some of the dross output from the domestic tracks

Anyone have any (non racist) insight as to why French racing has never been shown to any great degree apart from the classics and G1’s on RUK / ATR ?
Just had a look at some of the races over the last week or so at Saint Cloud / Chantilly online and Equidia have quite high quality pictures..presumably there could be potentially some mutual interest on both sides across the channel to get some consistent pictures from the higher quality tracks

”In the UK the racecourses decide who broadcasts their course in Ireland it is the IRH and AIR the courses do not get much say, in the last rights round Punchestown wanted to go to RUK but the irish courses don’t get the final say like they do over here.”

I dont understand your post Steve, I presume you mean HRI when saying IRH ? This surely came up in dialogue at some point with AIR/HRI about how their product was going to be broadcast to the market when agreeing the bones of a 7 year deal with SIS, unless the relationship has completely fractured it makes no sense that the crossover now looks more or less rubberstamped

From the RP – SIS holds sole and exclusive rights to broadcast racing from every Irish racecourse, having in March 2016 agreed a five-year deal with the Association of Irish Racecourses (AIR) – via an HRI media rights committee – that extends the arrangement until the end of 2023.

Am in agreement with Eddie O’Leary saying the Irish industry have sleepwalked their way into this.

I know I am probably coming across as aggressive on this thread but the mind boggles at the logic, why are racecourses actively deciding to make the product less accessible to people ?
It is such a regressive step and reduces the sport to a debate amongst diehards over the credentials of Rachel Candelora v David Cleary instead of allowing future racegoers sample what is on offer for free…
It doesnt seem to be getting mentioned on the thread but it is possible to stream (in average quality and only of interest to the extreme racing fan) both RUK and ATR free through Chromecast / the internet…as I am sure most people will know

Its good to know a Bangor class 5 would not get preference over an Irish Grade 1 was the point you were trying to make in your bullet point.

. RUK is meant to be UK racing but I can envisage it giving Irish racing equal prominence.

Any chance you voted for Brexit?

Depressing. A better quality picture (if broadcast in full screen) but another barrier to any keen novice developing an interest in a minority sport

How much money the Irish courses got out of this deal vs the ATR offer would be interesting to know

Justice probably served to Ruby to get taken on by Russell and done by the second string after how he played the start, I thought Labaik looked a lot better than 50/50 to jump initially on the first walk in…

He has 8lbs to find with the top rated based on OR’s on Friday which doesn’t completely rule him out if he can show some improvement, an interesting turn if he was to take the €147.5k prize money for Elliott in the title race at this stage with the difference €129.4k before Fridays racing

Another way of phrasing this question may be to say Alan Potts, Graham Wylie , Tony Bloom and Rich Ricci are all UK based, why do they have their horses who won this week trained in Ireland?

Only the owner can answer that but with the switching between trips, fences and hurdles to date you might think he will simply run where he believes she can be competitive..there is also the idea that if you are too afraid to lose it isn’t usually the best frame of mind to be in in order to win, but who knows
The discussion is interesting as the same question could be raised about other trainers who have multiple entries in races, presumably the horses need to be trained and ran as individuals as it would be such a negative frame of mind to suddenly have to apply the handbrake when the horse is coming right, the obvious exception is pacemaking…or so called pacemaking

How do we know the race would not have taken place without the switch, different owners the horses have to run somewhere and Mullins is running 2/3 in races currently as it stands, as Elliot and Gigginstown are forced to do now also. If they can take down all the prize money instead of some or none then why not run

I’ve only occasionaly posted on the betfair forum Viltash and mostly checked out the Irish sports / breeding sections if I did look in, I’m not a big fan of it and prefer to use Betfair for betting to be honest !
Re: the betfair forum olden days reference I remember Kevin Blake used to be a regular contributor under his monikor Irishwhisper at one stage if I’m not wrong…
