Niche Markey has been given 11, 4. I don’t know about you but i still fancy his chances.
There was one reason i was so shocked to see Mon Mome win last year. Not his odds, but the fact that he stayed. He looked like a knackered horse when he finished down the field in the Scottish National and did nothing in the Welsh National. So i think Mon Mome can be an example of my point. Niche Market may be looking like a tired horse in these shorter trips… but maybe he just needs more?
Hasn’t Air Force One been targeting the National all season?
Actually, I thought that’s what you meant.
Sorry about the embarrassment – I find it difficult to choose my words.
Don’t worry about it. If you can’t laugh at yourself – what i like to say
Money is really starting to plow onto Niche Market and i can see why. I’vr had my eye on him since the Irish National and i feel stupid for not taking some of the odds you could have got a few months back.
Very helpful Peter. I’ve posed two separate scenarios in two separate paragraphs, to which you’ve replied yes.

How embarrassing

I meant the National being plan A and the World Hurdle being plan B….
Isn’t that bad news? Doesn’t it mean that he’ll go for the World Hurdle instead?
Or is it the case that the GN is Plan A, so long as the weight is okay, otherwise the World Hurdle is Plan B?
I’m pretty sure that’s the case…
Come on stuff like this happens. It’s not like he took the wrong course or anything.
I’d still give him the leg up.
If you’re liking Tricky Trickster after today; you gotta like Niche Market too!
That was a heart breaking loss… unfortunatley he’s still gonna pay for it dearly in the weights.
Ellerslie George will run them silly. I really like his chances here and at Aintree in April…
It’s a shame Monkerhostin didn’t get an entry considering that gutsy win today.
Of the horses i had last year, the ones who are entered this year are…
Black Apalachi
Preists Leap
Kilbeggan Blade
KnowhereI just can’t seem to go against Knowhere. If luck isn’t as against his this year as it was last year i am convinced he will run well!
I’ve already expressed my interest in Black Apalachi and Preists Leap for this year again…
But i’ve been a bit put off my Kilbeggan Blade. He last fe runs since the National have been disapointing (although his third behind Eric’s Charm wasn’t disgraceful) i don’t see what i saw in him last year
Do forgive me for this, but when are the weights due?
Overall i’m pleased with the list. A few entries i was surprised to see were…
Our Vic
Razor Royale
Ellerslie George – this boy will have my money on the dayDisappointed not to see Companero, Keenans Future or Snoopy Loopy get entries.
I’m now pretty much sold on the idea that Mon Mome will win the National again, he ran pretty well off top weight today.
He’ll have a hell of a lot more horses with less weight than him in April. He has proven himself genuine and a good weight carrier, but with 39 smaller weights with a great deal of those horses being class acts i dunno if Mon Mome would be an absolute certainty…
Neither one of them have perfect jumping records and we all know what Kauto’s like. One could fall and bring the other down very easily. As far as i’m concerned this is still an open race.
Won’t happen Peter. Ruby isn’t silly and neither is PN. If you watch last years Gold Cup you’ll find Neptune Collonges Denman and Kauto race centre wide and rails so if one falls it won’t affect the others.
They’re way ahead of you buddy.
Yeah i know, but hey they all have four legs and they can all slip. I’m not trying to take them out of the picture altogether as that would just be silly. Goodness knows that it’s most likely gonna be one of them two who wins, but i’m still convinced the race is still relatively open based on the magic word; luck.
Of course saying that; Irish Invader had never been over 2m 1 before going to Aintree last year and he had every chance coming onto the racecourse propper second time round.
Black Apalaches best chance has surely past but that being said if he gets to the front in that rhythmical jumping pattern again who knows.
Call me whimsical but Irish raptor is still a horse I fancy at 80’s.
I disagree. Black Apalachi reminds me of Brave Highlander and Amberleigh House. A horse who just comes to life around Aintree. I still maintain that Brave Highlander would have won in 98 and 01 had luck not gone against the poor old lad. He was 13 on 01 and was still looking like a winner before getting took out by those damn loose horses!
And again with Amberleigh House; proof that a horse in this day and age can still win at the big age of 12. I think Black Apalachi could still have another 2/3 Nationals in him.
If you asked me a couple of months ago; i’d say Irish Raptor wouldn’t have a prayer, no way would he stay! But then i started to think… with the first lap usually being just hunting round; the race is almost just a 2,5 race, only they jump 13 fences beforehand and we know what Irish Raptor can do at 2,5 and over those fences, so i’ve had a change of heart over his National chances… 80’s are very good value
