As maybe the most maligned person on here (i am not complaining, i invite it at times) i would say the site has been a tad off but though i have had my differences, David does a very good job. But i think the unsung hero on this site is Nathan, i think he keeps it going, i have the utmost respect for him. He is the person i would most like to meet and have a beer with.Along with a few others, obviously Triptych who is apparently akin to a supermodel…David as well as GT ( would be great to get him p!ssed then try watch him do his math then…) Joni, just to p!ss him off about Frankel,Coggy has to be there and many more…

Saw the race, he is a very good horse, the word ‘gutsy’ sums him up, with class as well. It was good to see him get to the line strong. My only gripe with the races of say 25 furlongs plus when they walk to the line having given their all, it shouldn’t be…I saw one of these the other night here, the poor bugger was running out then in, utterly exhausted, we don’t need that. You have some very good jumps riders there, good to watch a class rider rate a horse.

A punter rang last night’s ATR phone-in to complain about the increasing amount of drunkenness and concomitant bad behaviour on racecourses. He cited Saturday at Newbury as an example. This was breezily dismissed by Matt Chapman as just the way of things nowadays and that ‘there’s not much we can do’. Chapman further suggested that the gentleman should take time off work to attend ‘quieter’ midweek meetings – something I do myself.

Aside from this dismal response, I wonder if it is now feasible for courses to consider alcohol-free days on occasional Fridays/Saturdays perhaps to encourage families and genuine enthusiasts?

I understand that bar turnover obviously plays a part in racecourse’s finances so it would be a brave move. However, unless courses come up with a strictly-enforced policing of drunkenness and anti-social behaviour (of which there is no sign at the moment) I think racing is running the risk of making it’s showpiece days simply a magnet for coachloads of pissheads who have scant regard for the racing taking place and even less for the sensibilities of their fellow racegoers.

    Mike

Mike ,one has to forgive Matt Chapman, as he has form at times as a d#ckhead… I remember Peter Moody was very annoyed when Matt said Black Caviar had to come to England to prove herself. Now Moody replied..Yes arrongantly..but correctly ‘Why do we have to come half way around the world to meet inferior horses for less money to prove herself’. Now, yes she just fell in, but with f***** suspensorys and torn chest muscles with Luke pulling her up before the line Moody was proved right…As for the drinking, i have done my time at the races getting ‘maggoted’ (any pom who knows an Aussie knows that means well p!ssed). No fun next morning and these days the young crowd just seem to be on the ‘shots’ waggon, i mean if anyone knows anyone older than 25 that does shots.. Well they are a d!ckhead, one should learn…Nothing wrong with having a good few drinks at the races, it can be enjoyable, but have some self control. Over here like there they are promoting to a young crowd, they have to and drinking and music is their Ace,it works and these are the times we live in…

Well, you have to say that is helluva retirement plan the old boy has got waiting for him! The sun on his back, people making a fuss over him on a consistent basis…shame he’s going to be surrounded by Aussies! ;-)

Teach that uncouth lot some manners, Red!!

Seriously, a big thank you to the veterinary team that took care of him, and ‘Living Legends’. :good:

Living Legends is situated very near to Tullamarine Airport which is the international airport in Melbourne. I have been there a couple of times a great set up. As for the ‘uncouth Aussies’ well one of the last times i was there i heard and saw a brawl every night at the local pub near my hotel, always about 8:00 pm…I thought that was a bit early to be in such a state as that…This was in Nottingham, at the time i thought ‘it is true they are much more refined than us’ :)… Anyone wanting to check out his retirement home the web address is http://www.livinglegends.org.au
    Enjoy your pampering, Red!!

Who exactly is the winning rider telling to “get stuffed”? Fancy sullying the greatest moment of her career for some ‘burn-the-bra’ nonsensical comment.

Yes Michelle Payne should have saved that for another day…As she was coming back on the winner in an interview she was having a go at some of the owners who wanted to replace her. Where she should be grateful for keeping the ride, now she has always ridden well though is she within the top 20 jocks in Australia, maybe no. Now Michelle saying that as a woman she gets treated differently well she gets a lot of opportunities that male riders of the same ability don’t.Knowing that she gets a lot of rides and wins her share of city races and provincial cups, she was probably earning 300 or 400 k a year before her cup win.

Just wondering; if Max Dynamite had’ve won would he have been disqualified because of the interference?

Doubt it, if an offence is subject to disqualfication it would apply to any position it came, not just applied if it finished first.

No they don’t disqualify here, excepting if they weigh in light,in a protest it is relegation. For memory I think here a rider or connections can protest from as far back as 5th, no further back. If it was 5th v 1st and protest upheld, winner goes back to 5th, protesting horse goes to 4th, 2nd horse declared the winner. The same scenario in all other upheld protests, 2nd v 1st; results reversed. Etc, etc.

Max Dynamite had his chance to pick the winner up, those saying he was unlucky, no it was the opposition that Frankie wiped out that was unlucky. The winner was the best ride of the race, at least as good as any ride in the race. The winner is certainly no ‘nag’ but as I pointed out the curator got it wrong with a biased track. Those who settled back had no hope. In a normal Cup without the bias I couldn’t see the winner running a place, but the owners don’t care they just won a $6 million race. Ed Dunlop and Willie Mullins have it worked out what horse and the preparation that is needed, Aiden O’Brien however is struggling to learn from them… Last 5 starters in the Cup 2008, 18th, 20th, 21st of 22 runners (one runner did not finish), 2015, 16TH and 19th of 23 runners.

Interference all over the shop , allowing 1OO/1 female ridden nag to grab the prize .

nuff said !

That ‘nag’ is a pretty ‘handy’ horse… All the interference caused by two English jockeys…Both Suspended, and they did not ‘allow’ the ‘female’ jockey to win, hers was the best ride in the race. Michelle Payne rides very well, always has.

The Flemington track raced with severe bias to on pace horses and if more than 1 off the fence on Saturday you hardly had a chance. The rail has been put out 2 metres, hopefully that makes the difference as Saturday was a joke. The winner for me with no bias is the Japanese favourite Fame Game. He shouldn’t have been going around in the Melb Cup as all connections and rider should have been given 6 months for their (trial !!!!) ‘RUN’ in the Caulfield Cup…. Whilst i hate going for a fav in the Cup he looks too good. I think the hardest to beat could be the former French/Dubai horse Almoonqith now with David Hayes here. He beat Dandino easily in the Geelong Cup last week, with a long gap to the third horse. The win was dominant like a carbon copy of Media Puzzle winning the Geelong Cup before his Melb Cup win. For 3rd i like Preferment a Derby winner and Group 1 10f winner with no weight he is unbeaten at Flemington. My other place chance being Hokko Brave the other Japanese horse at around 30/1 and Criterion is a class horse who will race well. There are a few other chances, now i usually wipe the Europeans who havn’t had a run but you know old Red Cadeaux loves it here and that won’t worry him. I know a couple of past winners have been over the hurdles and Max Dynamite 3 wins from 18 starts and 2 over the sticks doesn’t yell back me but his Lonsdale Cup win was very good. Trip To Paris was very good in the Caulfield Cup and a chance. I think you can wipe the O’brien runners, Kingfisher’s last couple have been poor and Bondi Beach only 5 starts been meeting 6 and 7 horse fields, now meets older horses and another 23 of them. So for me it will be
    1: Fame Game
    2: Almoonqith
    3: Preferment/Hokko Brave
    5: Criterion/Max Dynamite/Red Cadeaux/Trip To Paris
