    Hi all

to help with Ivanjica’s missing ones, the 1923 racing calendar shows:

1906 – L Neumann – WHITE, BLACK and WHITE hooped slvs
    1907 – W B Purefoy – LIGHTBLUE and BLACK hoops
1913 – A Belmont – SCARLET, MAROON slvs, BLACK cap
1948 – Sir A Butt – YELLOW, graduated BLUE hoops, BLUE cap (as advised)

regarding G.Wilson 1933, and without wishing to put a spanner in Isinglass’ works – the same book shows:
G.T.Wilson – BLACK, one broad orange hoop on body and slvs??????
(As a generic question does anybody have categoric evidence whether such desrciptions mean orange hoop on slvs or orang sleeves – always bugged me!!)

Is this all of them now?

Re the Comtesse, she had 2 runners in the 1969 Derby

PRINCE REGENT 3rd 13/2 trained by E.Pollet in FRance
Yellow, green slvs, yellow armbands, green cap

MOON MOUNTAIN 4th 28/1 trained V.O’Brien in IReland
Buttercup yellow, green hooped sleeves, green cap, yellow hoop

can we assume that the former were her first cols in the light of previous posts, and were the others 2nd cols or cols registered in Ireland?

Will post my missing ones when i’ve sorted the remnants of my computer crash!!!!!

p.s still think belt is a "narrow hoop"!!!!!

Hi all, and welcome to Ivanjica and others new to this madhouse. Had a few computer problems that have eaten up all my research time so haven’t got much further, but may be of help with a few of Ivanjica’s "holes" – I will post later when I have had chance to invetigate further, but in the meantime

    http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigi … m=&pos=190

shows T.Pilkington (pre ww1) as red and grey hoops, red cap?

I have racecards with the Comtesse colours in, and will update this post later.

Incidentally Ivanjica, I believe a "belt" is usually a hoop (albeit a narrow one) weren’t the Duchess of Westminsters colours referred to as a a black belt?

Thanks guys, sorry I haven’t been back on for a while – the info regarding Inkslinger is great, but I have just discovered (from an old racecard) the colours were as you say but with PINK not white – actually they had a pink sash as well – so BLACK, PINK sash armlets and cap.(Mrs M Jenney)

still tracking the others I mentioned, so if you are still lost for something to investigate……

you’re quite right , of course AP, I should have been more specific – I believe the 2 mile Novice Chase was the Cotswold Chase from 1946 – 1968, and that is what the earlier names won.

    Regards

thanks AP and rory for your swift responses – I got most of the Stewards Cup owners from a foregin website, so its entirely feasible that some may have been wrong – so thank you. Mr MaCaughey of course owned Connaught Ranger who won the Triumph in 1978 – so quite a double – I just didnt know he owned Autumn Sunset – many thanks to you both.

Just in case anybody is still interested(!) – Henry Aubert – french owner of Puissant Chef (and Le Bavard second to Sagaro in 1975 Ascot Gold Cup) colours were:

    BLACK, RED SLEEVES, YELLOW CAP

congratulations Isinglass on completing your mission – mixed emotions i’m sure: satisfaction and wondering what to do next!!

I’ve extended my mission to include various top grade races (post war only) including Group 1 flat races and grade 1 NH races – what fun! For the record, the ones giving me trouble at present are:

Glencaraig Lady 1972 Gold Cup (owner Patrick Doyle)

Right Royal 1961 King George (Mrs Jean Couturié)

    Hilly Way 1978 & 79 Champion Chase (J Sweeney)
Inkslinger Champion Chase 1973 (Mrs M. Jenney
Flying Bolt Champion Chase 1966 (Jean Wilkinson)
Quita Que Champion Chase 1959 (Mrs D. R. Brand)

Puissant Chef 1960 Arc (Henry Aubert)
    Molvedo 1961 Arc (Egidio Verga)
    Oroso 1957 Arc (Raoul Meyer)
Sica Boy 1854 Arc (Mrs Jean Cochery)

I think we concluded that Vaguely Noble probably carried all "gold" colours when winning the Arc!

    regards

very wise not to bother with French – you can see how bad mine is – I’ve been searching for Henry (Aubert) not Henri – but yes it appears to be the very same, and maybe they did run in Mme Aubert’s colours – France Galop list aMarie Francoise but not marie-Louise which I understand was Henri’s wifes name – vatious posts suggest he died in 2008

    Come on Zarkava!

Thanks to everybody for their fascinating research – I think i can conclude then that Vaguely Noble did run in all gold when winning the Arc.

Just found an interesting picture of Puissant Chef

    http://www.life.com/image/3431277

but of course its in black and white, unless anybody is na expert in shades of b/w and wehat colour they represent! Cant find a video of Sagaro’s 1975 Gold Cup in which Le Bavard was second (same owner as Puissant Chef) – managed to find the Sporting life card for that day but would you believe the bbc WERE ON STRIKE AND THE lIFE DIDN’T PRINT THE COLOURS FOR THAT DAY!!!!

Still hunting for Kashmir (2000 gns) and also Glencaraig Lady winning Gold Cup in 1972 – know its Red and Blue but cant make out the patterns.

many thanks for all your help – have acquired a set of National Cards – still a bit difficult to glean the colours for some though… if anyone else is interested I can post what I think I have found my missing colours to be…

inthe meantime, a success!!!! Imprudence, winner of the 1000 gns and Oaks in 1947 – Mrs P Corbieres’s colours were:

    Yellow, white hoop, black cap

courtesy of a very helpful curator at the National Horseracing Museum!!!

    will keep hunting…

Many thanks – have contacted Tom Taaffe and will post any reply I receive. In the meantime, cotacted horse racing ireland re NOCTURNAL SPREE – their reply is

"The Nearest match that we have is

WHITE, maroon striped sleeves, maroon & yellow striped cap

which belonged to Mr. Denise D O’Kelly. This set was registered on 7/3/1974.

In relation to the Nocturnal Spree, it run in Irish 1000 guineas bit did not win it but it won 1000 guineas in the UK."

Thanks for all your help – really whittled down my gaps!

I haven’t found anymore, butdiscovered that Henry Aubert who owned Puissant Chef(Arc winner) also owned Le Bavard, great stayer of mid 70’s – winer of the Prix Cadran and more importantly 2nd to Sagaro in the Gold Cup in ’75 – has anybody a racecard of that or any other race that Le bavard may have run in?

Thanks Crepello, very helpful – I think McShain’s colours included armlets as well as striped slvs – do you know if they were red as well (or maybe black) with a red hat (I think there was a red "B" on the body as well – presumably for Ballymoss)

Couple of others I am struggling with over jumps:

    Gold Cup

1957 Roddy Owen – owned by Earl of Fingall

1972 Gelncaraig Lady / Patrick Doyle (predominantly red but vids aren’t clear enough for the detail)

no problem – I am not sure how many of your initial list have been ticked off either – can you update?

    my gaps are:

    2000 / 1966 / Kashmir / P.Butler
    2000 / 1961 / Rockavon / Tommy Yuill
2000 / 1955 / Ou Babu / Sir David Robinson (dont think this is the infamous David Robinson owner of 60s & 70s)

    1000 / 1975 / Nocturnal Spree / Mrs D O’Kelly
    1000 / 1953 / Happy Laughter / David Will

    OAKS / 1968 / La Lagune / H Berlin
    OAKS / 1947 / Impudence / Mme P Corbiere

    ST L / 1948 / Black Tarquin / W Woodward
ST L / 1957 / Ballymoss / J McShain (this must be easy ‘cos he owned Gladness etc but can only see black and white vids)

    ARC / 1968 / Vaguely Noble / Wilma Franklyn
    ARC / 1964 / Prince Royal / Rex C Ellsworth

    GNAT / 1958 / Mr What / D J Coughlan
    GNAT / 1955 / Qaure Times / Mrs W Welman#
    GNAT / 1947 / Caughoo / John McDowell

any help would be gratefully appreciated!!!

    Hi Isinglass

many thanks for your info – will get back to you once I have had time to go through my "stuff" re your missing colours – agree with you re. Isle de B – marvellous horse 2 group 1s and 2 group 2s in only 10 starts – brilliant trainer too – FJH also had Rose Bowl around that time – terrific filly – and of course won several classics for the Engelhards.

    regards
