    Hi all,
just to keep this thread going and to widen it a bit, I have been looking at the history of the Royal Hunt Cup, and came up with some "colour" gaps – anybody know the colours for:

Mrs V. McKinney – owned Buzzards Bay (1982 winner and winner of the QE2 at Ascot later that year)

    A.W.Anthony – Vague Shot – 1987

    Mr J Edwards – camouflage – 1973

Thanks Isinglass – getting there slowly but surely!!!!

Incidentally, I found (by accident) confirmation of Patrick Doyle’s (Glencaraig Lady) colours. Would you believe he had a two year old filly (may have had more) with Clive brittain in 1975 called Maureen’s Surprise – happen to have a Warwick evening racecard where she ran –
Red, Royal Blue striped slvs, qtd cap

as we already knew I think!!!!

    Thanks for your perseverence!!

    http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Impressiv … ON.(Sports)-a0195502052

refers to Bluehills as being the racing arm of Hesmonds, and according to breeederscup.com,

"Petra Bloodstock Agency is one of three noms des courses for Lady O’Reilly, formerly Chryss Goulandris, who lives on the 850-acre Castlemartin Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. She also races in the names of Hesmonds Stud and Skymarc Farm

Whether she has relinquished her positions recently, I dont know – but somebody must??

I know this forum was originally posted for "classic" winners, but with the onset of Glorious Goodwood, I was investigating some of their big races and couldn’t find colours for:

Richmond Stks – 1992 – Son Pardo (owned by NTC Ltd)
    1960 – Typhoon (N S McCarthy)
    1952 – Artane (J O’Connell)
(the latter two were both trained in Ireland by Paddy Prendergast)

Stewards Cup – 1954 – Ashurst Wonder (Mrs R Merrick)

There are probably others too, but in the meantime, anybody?

With regard to the Sheikh and HRAC, Stelvio winning the Queens Vase in 1995 was the last pattern race winner they had together, which is interesting ‘cos Godolphin had already had some success with Balanchine the year before.

Could be wrong, but I thought ZALAZL was owned by Maktoum al Maktoum and trained by Henry when winning the Great Voltigeur in 1989.

To confuse the issue further, SNOW BRIDE was owned by Saeed al Maktoum who I think was Sheik Mohammed’s father wasn’t he?

Regarding Mrs Harris, I remember a nice filly called SIng Softly that Henry trained in the early 80s

Perhaps Henry was too popular in the 80s, after all Stavros Niarchos and Robert Sangster didnt get horses with him until the mid 1980s and 90s respectively

Other eminent owners who did of course, were Daniel Wildenstein, Charles St George, Louis Freedman, Lord Howard de Walden, Wafic Said, Prince Faisal and Carlo d’Allessio

Thanks for the "inside" view Pinza – I agree its a splendid piece – my guess (and its only a guess) is that the attire suggests Royal Ascot or the Derby – Ascot’s a no-no because the numbers board is the wrong side of the grandstand (wouldn’t be down the course obstructing the view of the race), but Epsom is a possibility. I dont know what the stand at Epsom was like circa 1900, but I am sure Isinglass would know if a Derby winner wore those colours, so perhaps it was a supporting race at the Derby meeting?

No help I know, but gets us all thinking…..

    Hi Pinza,

the only colours that I can remember broadly like that belonged to a A J Struthers who had plenty of good horses with John Dunlop for a few years (grey, pink slvs, chk cap), specifically a good stayer in the 70s that I ant remember the name of!!!!!

I think Mr Struthers was and maybe still is (?) a member of the Jockey Club too, so has the right connections!

Not much I know, and whether its relevant to cica 1900 I dont know!

As promised – my gaps are listed below. Predominantly I’ve looked at post-war winners of "big" races (flat and NH) – eventually, I might manage a library of all group races (on the flat) – as yet its mainly group 1s with a few favourites thrown in – whence the stewards cup! – any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    2000 gns
    – 1966 – Kashmir II (P. Butler)

    Chelt Gold Cup
    – 1926 – Koko – F.Barbour
    – 1925 – Ballinode – C.Bentley

    Arc
1968 – Vaguely Noble – Wilma Franklyn (consensus is "gold" but i’ve never had it confirmed)

    1961 – Molvedo – Egidio Verga

    1957 – Oroso – Raoul Meyer

1954 – Sica Boy – Mrs Jean Cochery

    Stewards Cup Goodwood
    1954 – Ashurst Wonder – Mr R. Merrick

    King George
1961 Right Royal 1961 King George (Mrs Jean Couturi̩)- thanks for the input guys Рis there a concensus on this one?

    Champion Chase
1959 Quita Que Champion Chase 1959 (Mrs D. R. Brand)

One thing i forgot to mention (been away from this thread too long) – Venture to Cognac was interested in Manny Boy – owned by Frank Pullen. Frank was quite a character in these parts (south of England) and had several horses with Josh Gifford – you may be interested in reading this:

    confirms the colours too!!!!!
