Isn’t the yard split in two, a bit like the Baldings did with Kingsclere before Ian retired. The son basically trains half of them, dad the other. He said at least once before that Sky Lantern is in "his yard". Obviously senior has been around, but if that’s how they’re operating, it’s only fair to let junior go up for the presentation.
No idea on jockey change but .. the best RE Fahey has ‘ever trained’ can only finish 4th in a Group 3. Is it only me that finds this odd?
Obviously that’s the trainer’s opinion and maybe based on his homework he’s exceptional, you could also be cruel and say apart from a couple of "substandard" group 1 winners the trainer mainly trains decent handicappers and the odd listed class horse, so it doesn’t take much to be his best. I’ve not totally given up on Garswood, but it might take a while for him to find his best form on the racecourse. And I wasn’t slagging Fahey off, he’s an admirable trainer given the horses he has, but it’s not the same as a Stoute, Gosden or O’Brien saying it’s their best ever horse.
I think it’s been ok, there’s the mute button when they talk fashion and Eastbourne on BBC2 for when it’s an ad break. I’m a big Nick Luck fan, Clare is Clare, and I think Graham Cunningham knows which horse is which a lot better than Francome ever did or what race they ran in.
I think Toronado ran to the best of his form, how far did he beat Dundonnell this time? Maybe he was flattered by Dawn Approach not quite running up to his, maybe that’s as good as both of them are. I’m loathed to blame any jockey that loses a short head or less, a couple of inches the other way and people would be calling Hughes a genius. As for his record in multiple Hannon entries, there’s lots of factors that can determine the outcome, indeed that determine which horse he rides, but yards don’t run two or three in a race just to give everybody a day out.
I’m not keen on antepost betting and definitely not for the Arc in June, there’s plenty of time for something to emerge or unfortunately, for things to go wrong.
I backed Libertarian @ 6/1 for the Leger. Expecting a "Yorkshire" trainer to go for it even if winning in Ireland. However, now bought by Godolphin and will be trained at Newmarket after the Irish Derby. Less likely to go to Donny now.
Yeah; it’s not as though Godolphin have supported the Leger over the last twenty-odd years or anything.
I was thinking that, didn’t Blue Bunting even go for it after her Guineas and Irish Oaks wins? I’m not the biggest Godolphin fan, but to be fair, they always give the Leger a real go.
How many Prince of Wales winners have done the double, especially since it became a group 1? I’d love to see Intello come back over for it, but I imagine he’ll stay for the Grand Prix de Paris and then the Arc.
Has now split with Turner, I hope that was her call and not his, would be very harsh if she’s been sacked.
I thought Clare made a couple of inaccurate comments yesterday, one about Sole Power beating the older horses at 2, I’m sure he was a three year old, can’t remember the other, but at the time I thought "that’s so not true". But I actually prefer how they’ve gone, this is a better incarnation than the last one. I’d prefer less fashion and non racing features, but realise they have to appeal to more than just the racing aficionados.
I’ve got a feeling Fury will run a huge race down to a mark of 100 (he won off 104 last time in a handicap). A decent high draw and lots of experience in these cavalry charges. I thought he was worth an each way nibble.
Anyway, it’s not really about me, it’s about the great man and his amazing career.
I’m sure I can’t add much more to what’s already said, but as somebody fighting a similar battle, he was an inspiration and his courage in recent years gave me and many other great strength and determination to keep going too. My thoughts go out to his wife, children and those very close to him.
I wish you all the very best sir.
I too hope that everything works out well for you . God bless.
Thank you too.

Thank you, oh and I’m not a sir, I work for a living
He’s just on a bad run isn’t he? For a guy who’s trained a Derby and Oaks winner in the part decade, it amazes me the lack of quality horses and owners he attracts. I suppose it’s a very competitive industry and you’re only as good as your last winner.
I’m not sure I’d back a horse in the Eclipse that’s run Chester, Irish 2000 and St James Palace. That’s quite a heavy schedule in a short space of time. I know Giant’s Causeway ran in 3 group 1s plus the Gladness prior to winning at Sandown, but that’s probably an exception rather than the rule, especially for three year olds. As for Magician being regarded as Ballydoyle’s best three year old, there ends up being so many rumours leaked from there as to pecking orders etc, I’m not sure AOB always really knows who’s best until after Ascot time and who knows where Kingsbarns will emerge if/when he returns.
I think Coolmore have changed their approach in recent years and while they remain first and foremost a stallion station, they have become far more sporting. They’d have never run the likes of Yeats or Fame And Glory in the Gold Cup a decade or so ago, horses like Galileo and High Chaparral never had Doncaster on their radar after their derby wins, but, given the market is fairly saturated, they are keeping horses in training longer and going for big races, not just trying to make every stallion prospect a 10f group 1 winner.
I backed both the placed horses and think they’d been decent Leger types, but if they went to The Curragh, I don’t expect either to win. I think too much is made of Libertarian finishing strongly in regards to a stronger pace surely suiting him. The way I see it, a stronger gallop would’ve meant he was even more outpaced and while tactical speed is less important at The Curragh, the winner was idling and is equally unexposed and open to further improvement too. Whether he’d get an extra quarter mile is doubtful, but I thought he was a Leger horse the minute he won at Chester. There’s been plenty of very good and great Guineas winners beaten at Epsom, though on reflection, it probably wasn’t the greatest Derby. Treasure Beach ran ok a few times afterwards, but Carlton House clearly wasn’t top class, Memphis Tennessee likewise or Native Khan. Who knows what Pour Moi would’ve achieved, but they finished in a heap that day, so chances are he was of a similar level.
The getting to settle problem would be been the biggest issue as others have said, there’s no way he’d have won had Queally let him go like he did at Newmarket and chances are, Epsom would’ve set him alight with the crowd and all the distractions. I think they wisely swerved it, though I’ve never understood those he doubted he’d stay. Surely a horse who won twice over a mile at two, related to probably (certainly not confirmed) stayers like Noble Mission and Bullet Train by Galileo, would’ve got the trip, if not at that stage, certainly to have run well in an Arc? -
