Darren, BigG is probably mindful of his ‘ticker’, and has probably had enough for a while of hiding behind the settee.

Now there’s a thought, Graham…. I wouldn’t put it past them….. six-armed bandits like that Indian god. Anyway, great to hear you lads winning so often, and winning well. I’m sure I don’t need to tell the four of you to keep up the good work.

I had a strange confirmation from ‘Upstairs’ that I was not to continue betting. Twice I tried to just sneak a small bet on the rugby world cup, and both times, it immediately switched to another unrelated screen. Normally, I would have bet on France against the Pumas, as they only seem to bother to peak for the big international champion- ships, but a journalist was so confident about the Argies, I was going to do them. Guess who won?

I second that Gray!… intoned in a pompous parliamentarian’s voice. Have to call you and Dazzler, Butch and Sundance – only your banks are the bookies!

I mean …er… you know what I mean. I bet you’re pleased. :good: :good: :good: (Something went wrong here, when I tried to edit away the italics. Sorry about that).

If they haven’t already ‘got your number’, you’ll soon be known as ‘a face’ in betting shops, and wherever else you might punt. That sounds a cracking bet, as Nadal and Fedex, . being finally, at last, on the way down, with Medvedev very near the top now…… Still Djokovic to beat, But I prefer someone good who’s ‘on the up’, rather than a multiwinning veteran. But heck, even with the place on Med you can cover that and make a nice profit!

I love the image I have of you*, AthosBG, Porthosrayban and Mo D’Artagnan, all hiding behind your settees when a result is ‘nip and tuck’, balanced on a razor’s edge, and y’all calling out ambulances for each other, to remain on standby !

*I don’t know who the boss of the Three Musketers was, but I reckon they would vote you for that – apart from your being boss of the thread.

I bet the bookies read your write-up on Schauffeler, Dasbert !

This was in answer to one of your first posts on this thread, Daz ; when you complained you could only get 25s for him – no 33s on offer – after you had written a glowing testimonial to him !

Congratulations on that lovely double, Dazzler. Also, Medvedev placed at 50s – presumably, at least 10/1. I did him a little earlier, I think, in another competition, on your advice, and should evidently have stuck with him!

I suspect you’re providing the bookies with a free odds-compiling service. On the other hand… has it been free…? ha ha I think NOT!

500/1 ‘My bloody owth, Dazzler ! as the Aussies would hurl. Too speculative for most of us, but I reckon, but I expect you’ve already spoken to various estate-agents and put down a deposit on some nice manor house and estate in Sunningdale, Wentworth – some such area. You could try and buy the estate now occupied by the civil-service college in Sunningdale/Ascot. It used to be owned by Lord Derby, I believe.

A nice little string of race-horses, jodhpurs, a cheese-cuter and a hacking jacket would just complete the picture. I once asked my mother-in-law if she could see me in a hacking-jacket and cheese-cutter, dressed up like a toff, and she laughed like a drain. The cheeky mare !

Yes, what a great shout, Mom. I think Daz took 16s, and I managed to get 14s, as I expect you would have – if not the 16s. Thanks for the retirement gift (or semi-retirement gift), Dazzler.

Now that I have to stop betting, it looks like I might have some small-priced political bets coming good, too. What a twisted sense of humour God has! (Just like mine…. the rotter!). It wouldn’t be the frst time He’s pulled a stunt like that on me…. If I’d succumbed and put another bet on, Bianca and Goosen would have lost. Foreshore.

Serena does look formidable after that match, doesn’t she ? Maybe she’ll breeze through it, but strange things happen all the time, don’t they ? In this US Open more than most. I wonder if confidence, grit and fitness will be the key factors. Andreescu apparently didn’t flag much when the chips were down, and she’s kept surprisng everyone, not least herself, at how good she’s become. So, she could have close to the confidence of a champion, at least going into the game. Actually I’ll get the Andreescu place, but not Nadal. You and BigG will be in clover whichever way it goes, Uncle Dazzbert!

Yep. Good Luck,Dazzler, with Nadal. I gave up on him a long time ago, while he was still in his prime, apparently! I still can’t believe he hasn’t torn his m*s**es* to beggary.

Tickled to see your tip, Andreescu, won today, as apparently I had a bet on her, as well as in the final. That would be a particularly lovely turn-up.

PS: I missed out the asterisks in ‘muscles’ for fear of ‘putting the mockers’ on Nadal, before you collected, Dazzler !

I’ll tell you what, Dazzler, since becoming a widower, if anything, I find it harder to avoid looking wistfully at women than when I was young, single and the hormones were still raging.

Apparently, Jennifer’s mother was an opera singer, and I think what she inherited and learnt from her, may be what gives her an edge over the other singers of that song. But the Donovan song is a beaut, too.

Just accidentally scrubbed another reply, while looking for a link to anothe video ! Maddening! But as Peter Sellars, aka The Pink Panther once observed : ‘All part of life’s rich pageant.’

Heck, I hadn’t thought of Fred needing to do a bit of moonlighting. Still and all, the drug bit looked a bit suspicious ! :-) Anyway, spot on about Jennifer. Even a nice name. Reminded me of that song of Donovan’s :

A while back, I bet on Corbyn to become next PM at 9/4 and Labour to obtain most seats at next G.E. at 5/2. I would like to bet on more, but mustn’t. Nearly did though, before I remembered.

Thank you, Ray, I’m sure I will stop by to see what’s cooking – if only to pretend to myself I’m betting.

I wonder if any of you know what Fred Winter is doing playing a drug-dealer or drug boss, in this video-clip of a song by Jennifer Rush. (But there again, I keep forgetting I’m as old as Methuselah).

Well, I’ll miss your craic and banter, BigG. You’ve been very welcoming, and I appreciate it. I might well drop by to see what’s cooking and how you’re all faring and hope I can make an amusing comment or two from time to time.

I bet your missus and Dazzler’s are prayig you don’t ever get together and spend twice as much time studying the form and conferring, while they want to discuss Coronation Street with you, while you watch it on the tele with them !

Best of luck, mate! Happy Days.

I see Novak’s out, as you suspected, Daz. And as you say, your girls have come in nicely in the betting. Good luck, matey!

Really kind of you to say that, Daz. I appreciate the warm fellowship on this thread, including from the less garrulous than you, BigG, (who’s also been very agreeably soft-soaping me) and me: Raygo and Mom.Yes, wouldn’t it be great if Andreescu comes up trumps. I do have a little on her to be the beaten finalist, as well, I think.

Anyway, I was chuffed to see I’d won a little bet on the S African Retief Goosen, the favourite ina foursome, on what I think was called the Kornferry Barclay something or other. I remembered him winning a big event some years ago, and was impressed with his character. He seemd a really decent soul.

    PS
I’ll quietly do my nut, if Schauffeler or Burmester wins! (and perhaps rebuke God in a muted kind of fashion…). He’s been beating a tattoo on my knuckles recently, trying to rein me in…)!
