Blimey – I’ve been away on hols for a few weeks and return to gaze upon the lounge lain waste in the Battle of Wordassoc. I can’t understand where all the anger is coming from. Surely the perfect and practical riposte for those who find the simple pleasures of this thread abominable is to post topics which generate such interest and debate that we are all drawn as moths to that particular flame and not here. Market forces, folks. Lawksamercy.

Bloody hell – the race didn’t exactly have ‘Gold Cup stars of the future’ written all over it…

Commercial Flyer for me. Ok, lacks experience, but was hugely impressive at Taunton. He’s tough (he’ll need to be) but ‘the vibes’ are good and if anyone can get an inexperienced horse to win it, then it’s Pipe.

Hi newcastleviana<br>I really feel sorry for men put under the cosh by the Valentine’s enigma, so I sympathise with your plight. I think the meal in sounds great…if you are looking also for a bit of icing on the cake, I suggest the following:

The secret is to either put in a lot of time and thought…or at least create the illusion that you;ve done so.

Get a decorative box and some ribbon. Cram the box with goodies. You do’t have to spend a lot of money. Lots of little stuff is great. For even more mystery, you can wrap each item and only let her open one item at intervals. Of course, I don’t know your gf and I don;t know what you can get up your High Street, but here are a few suggestions.

    1. Foot massage stuff…venturing to another person’s feet is surely a sign of love…so when she opens this, say that you’ll give her feet a rub at the end of the evening. Boots/body shop have got some good stuff.

    2. Fluffy compfy socks – nice to put your feet into post massage, or just when you’re tired and need a bit of comfort.

    3. A cd. Something mellow, or if there’s sometghing she’s been going on about, even better. On the mellow side, I think Jack Johnson’s In Between Dreams is a bit of a winner.

4.A book. Someone once got me ‘Like water for chocolate’ – which was probably one of the most romantic gestures ever. I would have married him if he had bought me Timeform.

5.Confectionery items – whatever she likes. Little bags of different stuff is good.

    6. Lip gloss – Benefit and Molton Brown glossies went down well in our Secret Santa last year.

    7. Other items could be small bottles of perfume, cute toy, lingerie (but you’ve gotta be really sure of your ground here).

As I say, all women are different, but what they do have in common is that they all like their men to have been listening to their likes and preferences.

Good luck – whether you do this or not, let us know how you got on.

Thanks for clearing up the details, Caravan. I was listening to commentary over the Internet – ‘gone wrong’ was the last that I heard.
