I am well aware NV of Cambridge Heath Road, there is a swimming pool where you can have a good slipper bath and they give you a small square of white carbolic soap you can secrete if you are well built- a towel too, but that’s harder.
No thses shops are a small chain now defunt – they may well have been taken over by another private chain. I don’t think they are there any more. Haigh used one as his local and often wrote about them in his older articles. Even wrote about the other plebs in there and his conversations with them.
Ian – I believe Salmon Rushdie may well use the darker forces, have you seen his current squeeze ? By the way Ian your stay at the Post never broke into the double figures did it ? :cheesy:
I thought so too
flatcapgamble…clue Bethnal Green lane is off Brick Lane
Zorro,
name those betting shops in Bethanl Green road
quick as you like
turtle in hay ;)
I will second that :o , but as they say nothing is certain in this life. I got short shrift too in the Talking site when I went out of kilter with the mods – they deleted all my posts and I am a name they care to forget. I noticed Merlin led a double life for a time, but I don’t know if he still posts there.
Strangely enough Grasshopper I do see a lot of clarity in Haigh’s pieces. ÂÂÂ

Hmmm, a 6pm posting.
A suitable time to end a racing day, mixed in with some pen work. The wig doesn’t fool a detective of my staure. You are either Haigh himself, or connected to the man by birth, marriage, or drinking slate.
Come on Turtle – you’ve got four feet like me- give me the name of those bloomin shops.
Haigh touches the common man chord without being too flatcap – he uses maffs.
I was living in a slum in Shoreditch at the time Haigh wrote about his daily visits to the east end bookies in bethnall green road…drat forget the name, little green shops, but I used them of occasion and checked the shop for a bully face with a grin…never saw him. He might have seen me trotting up the road.
Ian it’s a mad hatter world
I tend to think Haigh bumped into Down in a sleazy corridor and gave him ammunition and inspiration for his fine sheep article of last week. Either that or he reads me.;)
‘ stream of consciousness levity is not in the Haigh diet ‘
…his bush 11 analogy of a few days ago was steamingly good though. I have him down as a marmite man.
