Sadly it had it’s hind legs smashed

No, she damaged her pelvis, which was too significant an injury to repair. Her hind legs were not *smashed*. I am not naive, I get that horses get injuries that are not survivable for them, but please don’t make it something it isn’t.It is unfortunate enough without you using such language to highlight your own agenda.

Horrific. One horse jumped, staggered and then ended on the grass and seemed to recover ( withdrawn, obviously). The others were all fine until getting to the same point. The next one reared up and kicked out, and the one behind did likewise, and I could hear the lad saying that he was getting "shocks" through the bridle, and 2 horses went down. One had his legs rigid, like he had broken his neck after a fence fall, both were "jerking" on the ground.
Couldn’t stay – left in tears.

I don’t post much on here, but I read it regularly, and loved the review ( although not agreeing with all of it).
The highs and lows are always there – seeing horses progress through their careers, and following youngsters to see them blossom. Then the heart wrenching losses of horses like Twist Magic. It is why I love it – right from making my first pound on a horse called "My cup of tea" at Newton Abbot – to the undoubted highlight of this year which was to see Saddlers Wells in the flesh ( along with the others at Coolmore at the time). Seeing him surveying his domain and looking so amazing for his age, was right up there with watching Red Rum open the local bookies far more years ago than I will own up to.

The first bet was 1 pound to win on Spartan Missile in the 1981 (I think) National, loosing to Aldaniti. I didn’t mind a bit.
The first bet I remember being successful, was a horse called My Cup of Tea ( a Martin Pipe trained horse, running at Newton Abbot ) 5 pounds each way – I won 30 odd quid and was hooked !
Red Marauder – 2001 National, won me over 500, which payed for the the alcohol part of the honeymoon. I had arranged for the waiter to tell me the results as we had the meal. I was fashionably late for the church – not because it was expected, but I was watching the Morning Line and getting the bets on (the shame 8) ) and having a glass or two of champers !
Other horses that have helped are Made in Japan, Why the big paws, Jodami, Nortons Coin, Flying Instructor and Boot n Toot. I thank them all. A nurses pay needs a little help sometimes !

Ok, I don’t post often, but I love to read the posts on here, and in general I think it is fine the way it is. I ignore the posts I don’t want to read, and skip quickly over some of the less interesting ones. However, most of the established members have interesting, valid and informative views that I enjoy reading (I work nights, it passes the time…)and I would not want them to change.

All forums have their good and bad points, but as a (relative) newbie on here, I would like you all to know that you make this females night shifts whizz by !

Saw Angels and Demons at the weekend. Excellent film, great twist, enough history to be interesting without being boring and and the special effects were amazing.

Wasn’t the "Best turned Out" in a Classic ( a long while ago) awarded to one of the police horses one year ? It was a particularly bad example of horses that year, very plain, and I think someone wanted to award it to the police horse on duty but wasn’t allowed !

I like the green and white stripes of Spartan Missile. It was my first winning bet ( well, £1 EW, I was only 10 at the time) when he came second in the National.
