    [quote="mr forecast"

this ones very simple, the horse with the fastest time last time out

How do you find the "fastest" LTO since there are different distances , going, class etc ?
How do you make these times "comparable" ?

Can this still be done with Excel?

Would be handy to know how and any clues would be much appreciated.

BlueBrother can you tell us based on who’s ideas/books are your ratings compiled on?
Actuary can you tell us also about your ratings?

RacingSense standard times are the best I’ve come accross.

    Thanks for the link.
Just a question.I downloaded the software and spent little time with it.
    What i noticed:
I -somehow- entered in CREDENTIAL’s page with his previus races-results.
I nopticed that it had 3 previus races at Yarmouth at 1m2f21y and tried to calculate the stadard time for this track-distance.
    I came up with this:
Time elapsed – Time diff – StTm
    16/06/09 – 130.41 – 5.34 so StTm = 130.41-5.34=125.07
    28/05/09 – 127.34 – 2.32 so StTm = 127.34-2.32=125.02
    24/08/08 – 131.52 – 6.42 so StTm = 131.52-6.42=125.10

Small differeces at StTimes but should there be?

Found the book at around 30GBP do you believe it’s worth it?

I intend to work out my own standard times

I recently read somewhere that to create your own standard times you need to "be closed in a room with a bottle/s of whisky"
It involves great amount of time. It’s in my mind but not for the moment.
Basic things first. And better if i can find a "ready for use" set of standard times.

    By the way:

Calmdownmate is top rated at actuary’s ratings and has +11 at bluesbrothers’ ratings so i think it deserves a small bet (just for start).

Had a 2euro e/w bet (at 18.0 and 6.0 odds – betfair). It was a nice change since last days were loosing ones. There were only 10 more euro matched above the 6.00.
    Thanks guys

    Thanks you guys,
can you give us a brief description about the logic/steps for your rating methods?

Calmdownmate is top rated at actuary’s ratings and has +11 at bluesbrothers’ ratings so i think it deserves a small bet (just for start).

Before you can handicap, you must have acurate course/distance standard times.

Where can someone find "acurate" standard times? Maybe in a book?
What about RP standard times? OK ,free but acurate?

Weight and going must be incorporated in the equation. Then either Class Pars as per Mordin, Track Variance as per Beyer or Course Classification as per SOLIDUS.

"Course Classification as per SOLIDUS" , any more info ? I hear it for the first time.
Thanks you guys, as you see i’m at the beggining.

    Hi actuary.
Can you tell us in which previus race/races your ratings are based/calculated from?
LTO race, last two races , last two but not equally, best of last two months etc.
Which race is the most important that you can say it best reflects the current potition of the horse?
    Thanks

    Hi everyone

if i was to add the speed rating formula to this it would break the field down to 10 horses

Can you explain "the speed rating formula" ?
