Though interestingly Imperial commander was outstayed at haydock park by Kauto Star but when you put that horse around Cheltenham he seemed to be a different animal. I just think the fact of spring, course he’s excelled at before will mean a different horse. Does Ruby have to dictate the sections tho? If he got the horse into a good rythm and got a tow into the race it might work just as well. I think there are too many “what ifs” still to totally put a line through the Gold Cup. But also if Djakadam wins the Cotswold chase in a canter then Ryanair for Vautour would then be a certainty. There is only 1 Gold Cup tho.

Il go for Hayley Turner, Sammy-Jo and wee Gina off channel 4 racing. Don’t care what they talk about to be fair as I wouldn’t be listening lol. Batter in ladies lol.

    Otherwise I’d go:
    Ruby Walsh
    Paul Nicholls
    Harry Findlay

It’s going to be a cracking 2nd half of the season down there. I’d love to see Leicester make the CL but think they will fall just short. City I think will come good and limp over the line at the expense of arsenal. Spurs and Man Utd will end up battling for 3rd/4th just ahead of Leicester. But again a lot depends on January. Does the Leicester board think a CL or title push is truly on. If so do they strengthen….OR would strengthening and changing the side potentially mess up the spirit etc they have there. I think they will have to fight hard to keep mahrez, vardy and the boy in the middle of the park. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I was far from convinced about the right-handed argument and watching on CH4, he didn’t seem to go too badly left. But watching today the RUK coverage (different angle), he goes seriously to his left at quite a few, especially down the back. He’d be a stone better horse at Cheltenham come March if the last two festivals are anything to go by.

And although he didn’t look like he’d want 2 furlongs more, well, few horses would having gone that fast throughout, and Ruby will adjust the pace accordingly.

The stamina argument is getting much more credence than it deserves imo. He was caught on the post after an untidy, energy-sapping jump at the last: it’s not as though he folded after 22 furlongs and finished out the back. Connections are understandably disappointed, but after a few days reflection, I think they’ll appreciate just how magnificent the performance was given his age and experience and all the other negatives that he was supposedly subject to – poor midwinter form, right-handed track, softer ground than he likes, jumping out to his left…I think he did pretty well, all things considered!

Exactly this word for word. I still think he is a serious Gold Cup player. Only worry id have is if Djakadam wins his trial mightily impressively then connections might think Ryanair as then they get Ruby on both for a start.

Taylor is done I feel. Keeps changing darts etc as deep down he knows his time is up. I think 9/2 etc is a poor price on his current form. I don’t think he’d get near MVG, Ando, Lewis etc on current form. Even Wright who is coming along nicely. I would even back wade or chizzy to beat Phil on current form.

He wouldn’t be a forlorn hope in the Gold Cup either in my view. I think if he goes RSA though he will win it.

Me too mate. Also look at Vautours history at Cheltenham in March. 2 outstanding displays. Xmas last year he was atrocious only to come to life at Cheltenham. I think if they go for the Gold Cup he might just do it. Although I fear if Djakadam wins the Cotswold chase on the bridle then it will be Ryanair.

Wasn’t there talk of more of that possibly going the GC route? No More Heroes looked a machine again today.

Dodging Bullets in my opinion would beat SDG, sprinter sacre and special tiara around Cheltenham. And he is some way inferior to UDS. UDS if he stands up is a no-brainer. Last year we heard is jumping wasn’t upto it in lead up to arkle. No doubt get the same this year. Same result too I’d imagine.

I personally would still go the Gold Cup route with Vautour. I think left handed and especially at Cheltenham in the spring he is an absolute monster. Long as the ground is decent he would be bang there in my opinion. Also he must have expended a fair bit of energy at kempton constantly trying to pull left at the fences.I think he will stay the trip. I’d still have Vautour, Djakadam and Don Poli to finish in front of Don Cossack and cue card in the GC anyway.

Don Poli is a grinder who will find and find in the Gold Cup. I honestly think Cheltenham is his track and if he gets in the shake up at the top of the hill it won’t matter how he’s travelling as he will find and find all the way to the line.
