Mail’s Out:
Andrew Bensley just reported on Racing Retro that Jaguar Mail is no longer coming for the Cup. Connections are more keen to target some races at home.
Been gone for the past week gentlemen, but how good was Moudre first up. Absolutley devastating. Hope everyone else got on the early odds.
I thought Shocking ran a great race first up in the Liston. He’s come from last and ended up about 6th.
For anyone interested in Derby betting, Praecido was fantastic first up in Sydney. I got him at 125-1 for the Golden Rose in a fortnight, but the Derby is definatley his go.
Rebel Raider was stunning by the way Gerald. His half brother Shamoline Warrior evedently didn’t handle the wet track.
Sh!t, this place has fired up. And were still three months from the real action. Got to love the passion in this sport, after all, it’s why we all live and breathe it.
Before you guys take too many swings at eachother, remember we’re fighting for a common cause. To track down the next damn Cup winner!
By the way, looking forward to seeing The Miniver Rose, however more keen to see Moudre. I think he’ll give her wind burn at the 200m

Err, say what? I seem to recall last year’s 3yo CP winner running 5th in the Guineas.Yeah mate, but you might also recall no one wanted to run in the race last year. The only reason So You Think made the field was that Rangirangdoo was withdrawn on Thursday morning, and he was the only nomination left. He got in with only the Gloaming Stakes under his belt.
It’ll be much more difficult to make the field this year with better horses around, and probably only a win in the Guineas will be enough to gain a start.
Anyway, the horse is good enough, and he’s got the guineas by the balls as it is. Get the early odds!
Not one nomination from the Snowden yard for either Cup, this is what you get for breeding too much speed into the bloodlines. I think Darley need to take a new approach to their breeding operation if they ever desire to win a Cup.
4 noms for the cox plate however – All 3yo’s. Bullbars looks the best, brilliant win at his only appearance. He’d need to win the Guineas first though to warrant a crack at it
Yeah Ma Chienne, that’s a bummer. There a few usual suspects.
Rothesay for the Cox Plate. I know Gerald Ryan said he’d be targeting the Emirates before going overseas, but I don’t believe that for a second, that’s just old school ‘cagey’ behaviour. He’ll be there and he’ll smash them!
What’s Kitbutz nominated for? Fair Dinkum
Anyone given Count Encosta much thought? Made a meal of Descarado in the Tulloch, beating him easier than Shoot Out did in the Derby.
Well Monaco Consul will certainly make the field, and he’ll stay all day. Did Mike Moroney ever offer a reason as to what happened in NZ during summer??? Cause I agree he ticks all the boxes, and for mine he had Shoot Out nailed in the AJC Derby if there were another 30m or so. I just can’t get his NZ form out of my head. What happened???
Gerald I think your right about massive odds. After all there the most entertaining bets. The likes of Faint Perfume and Linton are both around 15-1, and those odds are likely to be avaliable most of the Spring. There looks to be plenty of good horses with 100’s or better on offer.
Bloody mouthwatering stuff though!
Hopefully there will be a few absentees from the noms on Monday to help narrow things down a bit.
I’ll take the ridiculous odds on the Perth Cup quinella just to start off.
Interesting replay. They appear about five lengths off Jaguar Mail though.
Don’t know what you guys think, but I can’t remember a time when there has been so many chances for the cups coming from all directions. I’ve attempted to make a shortlist of those I want to get early odds on, however my list is still up around 50! I don’t know where to look.
With so many internationals coming out, not to mention all the expats (Williams and Freedman) there’s probably only about 12 spots in the 24 for the locals in the big one. It’s going to be hard enough getting a run in the lead up races.
By the way it would be a good idea to dismiss Lord’s Ransoms last campaign in Melbourne with Peter Morgan. The horse wasn’t right, and I don’t think Peter quite knew what to do with him. Those Wilde lads will figure him out. The horse is a gun
P.S – Not sure about More Joyous, she just has that look about her. Win a couple lead ups then unfortunately go amiss. She’s worth too much in the breeding barn to push her too far
Yeah mate. Adam Durrant trains Ma Chienne. She’s been placed something like 21 of her 24 starts. Has a freakish turn of foot. Try gets your hands on some replays. Unlike Lord’s Ransom and co. she’s not owned by Bob Peters, so Durrant should still have her. Unless Bart has stolen her, he has a habit of doing that!
Oh, my name’s Anthony by the way. Confusing Username
I see your well versed in French. Still a damn good horse though
Hey guys, sorry for joining in so late, love your work. Just wondering if ‘Ma Chienne’ should be on your list. Runner up in the Perth Cup to Lord’s Ransom, absolutly flying at the end and probably should have won. I think you’ll find she’ll be nominated come Monday.
Also I reckon there’s a potential Cup horse running in Adelaide on saturday. ‘Hastein’ trained by Mark Kavanagh. By Viking Ruler out of a Zabeel mare. Place 7 of it’s 8 starts including a last start 10 length win over 1950m. It’s only 1200m on Saturday, but should be running on first up. I reckon he’ll be in the noms released on Monday.
Again, love your work
