24 strikes from just before turning in. A little excessive I think.
Did anyone else think that Rodi Greene’s effort of The Giant Bolster was far from the legendary ride that some were making it out to be and to my eyes he was far too whip-happy.
None of the Channel 4 presenter mentioned it at all.
Thankfully he was banned for a couple of days but I just thought it scandalous no one criticised it.
Granted he maybe a big strong horse but he was being lashed at from before turning in. I’d have charged up the run-in if I was being whipped that frequently!
Well done JJM, I’m sure you’re going to do a sterling job and you’ll enjoy the support of 99% of TRFers.
On a personal note, thanks to everyone for taking me under their wings, none more so then David and James, and I wish you all the very best in the future.
I’ll still be contributing on here in a personal capacity so I look forward to great debate and non-sexist banter :p
Smash it?
Cheers for these guys.
Anymore for anymore before I forward them to David?
Very interesting about the rating relationship with Dunguib.
Couldn’t help but be impressed with him as Dunraven Storm is certainly no mug.
Would be exciting if he remains unbeaten going into the Festival.
I’m sure I speak for everyone at TRF when I say thank you to Simon for such detailed answers. A very helpful interviewee and I’d like to wish him all the best for the future.
They like changing the name when racing in Hong Kong.
Wasn’t Viva Pataca Sir Mark’s Comic Strip as a 2yo?
Cheers for all these, guys.
They’ve now been sent to Simon.
Warmest welcome to TRF Robnant. I’m sure that’s echoed by everyone here too.
I agree with Librettist regards spotting over-priced horses and I think you can only really begin to do this by watching as many races as you can and therefore learning the profiles of individual horses/jockeys/trainers/tracks etc.
The ideal scenario to lay would be to know a horse (say a 10-1 shot) is going to travel really strongly throughout the race, and look the winner, but then for it to falter /not want to win in the final stages.
Therefore you could back it at 10s before the race before laying it off for a fraction of that price in running. Basically you’re trying to use your knowledge to develop a scenario by where you either break even or go into profit whatever the result.
I’m sure you knew that already but just keep watching as many races as you can and look for those who regularly start as favourites but usually finished placed. All-weather maidens for 3yos and over are usually a good place to start when laying odds on favourites.
Thanks for the questions so far, guys. Please keep them coming.
Fallon…..still
Sorry guys, as you can imagine Jim is pretty busy so as of yet hasn’t got round to sending me his replies.
Hopefully with a bit of persuasion I might get them soon.
In the meantime, our next Q&A is likely to be Simon Holt….
I know it wasn’t perfect David, but I dread to think what might replace it.
I wouldn’t know if Seville is the best they’ve got but I’d think he’s a very nice horse.
O’Briens 2yo record over here this eyar has been dire but it wouldn’t a surprise to see Seville go one better than Roderic O’Connor and at 5/1 I’d want to be with him rather than against.
Looks a live Derby contender even at this early stage for me though. Just watch the way he ate up the ground during the last furlong of his debut.
I think they’ll keep him in training.
He would be a top drawer, lightly-raced 4yo trained by Sir Michael Stoute after all.
I was scoffed at after the Derby when I said he’d be better on soft.
Cheers for all these guys. I’m now going to put them to Jim.
