I hate them.
They’ve deleted so many old races.
Last year Almost Every national was on there from the 50’s till the present day, now the only one I can find is 1987’s
The same can be said of the Derby, Gold Cup, Arc & Oaks.
There were also some great documentaries on horse rivalaries on there like Dancing Brave & Sharastani and Suave Dancer and Reference Point, plus some features on Dessie.
So if anyone has any old races/documentaries at their disposal, get them on youtube would you?
March 6, 2009 at 01:13 #213673I’m not sure it’s You Tube’s fault – it’ll be the rights holders – who in their infinite wisdom don’t want people ripping them off. Such a short sighted attitude – I mean Racing is in such a marvellously healthy state at the moment, isn’t it?
Completely out of touch with the real world….
March 6, 2009 at 01:15 #213676Exactly.
I love a bit of nostalgia, plus its not like say, the 1991 Grand National is readily available is it? The sort of thing you get to see once and thats it. I’m 20 so haven’t seen very much.
Why the BBC have a problem with this I do not know.
March 6, 2009 at 01:19 #213678Thomas:
Generally the BBC do not have a problem with it.
But the rights to many of the races on Youtube were owned by Racing UK who did have a problem with it as they own the rights to many old BBC races as well as their own output.
And ITV Sport have always misjudged the value of their holdings and so made people pull down info.
One of my plans is to find an ITV7 (probably before your time) and have it on DVD for old times sake.
So, if anyone has one out there, please drop me a line!

March 6, 2009 at 01:35 #213681I think the problem wasn’t u-tube it was other racing forums (not this one) who were linking to U-tube and dispalying the fact you could watch races on their sites. Albeit 40 mins or so after they ran.
Personally I think they did the wrong thing as there were so many races on there that it was surely creating interest in the sport and in turn would improve their sales.
Would love to know how they download them and are able to crack and watch them. I get awful lag at times with ATR
I am not suggesting anyone PM me and tell me
March 6, 2009 at 01:52 #213689The 2001 mudbath was still there the last time I looked, Thomas.
I think it avoided the culling as it was posted along with an anti-racing blurb, but at least it survived. I was gutted when they pulled down some of the rare Persian Punch races.

You need to go to a site called Keep Video.
Then when you find a video on the likes of Youtube etc. you copy the browser bar reference of the video and then paste that reference in the appropriate space on the Keep Vid site which will then capture and save same to your computer, say in my documents for example. Then when you want to play that vid you can do so if you’ve got Replay Converter (free download). Takes a little sussing out but once done twice smitten.March 6, 2009 at 02:00 #213692They’ve even pulled down the (full version) of Dessies win in the GC in 89 (year I was born). For absolute fucks sake.
Then the one when Norton’s Coin shocked everyone and won the GC@ 100-1.
gutted all round basically.
I have a few on DVD (2001 mud bath being one) but you cant buy many that way either. There’s not many special DVD’s on horses like Arkle/Golden Miller/Dawn Run/Dessie etc
March 6, 2009 at 02:25 #213701Alot of bodys or sites connected to racing always want to squeeze money out of people. What the heck are these assholes doing pulling down re-runs from youtube, it’s not as if anyone gonnae go to their site and pay for it.
March 6, 2009 at 02:54 #213724I understand the Beeb is in the process of putting it’s entire archive online, which probably explains the old BBC races disappearing.

Archive with reference to horse racing?
If so thats good news.
So it’ll all re-appear again?

The BFI Archive on London’s South Bank does have some episodes of
World of Sport
(and by extension of the ITV Seven) in its possession, but distressingly few given how long the feature actually ran – maybe no more than about 50 and nearly all of them from the very last weeks before the move of coverage to Channel 4.
That’s symptomatic, sadly, of many ITV companies’ / regions’ policy of overwriting programmes rather than retaining them for historic purposes or future use. The BBC had phased this practice out completely by the early 1980s, but it prevailed in some parts of the ITV network for another decade.
In fact, it’s just as well TVS didn’t hold any rights to racing material, as huge swathes of its output were routinely destroyed in 1992 when it lost its franchise to Carlton, presumably to stop any other providers making use of them. Myopic and criminal, in its own little way.
