Could be an over-used topic. I would just find other peoples opinions interesting. Not the best, just your favourites.
Ok me first.
Jumps:
Blazing Walker. Mad as a hatter and twice as frothy.
Denman. The tank, all guts.
Morley Street. Amazing hurdler.Flat:
Dancing Brave. Obvious, but justified.
Oh So Sharp. Best filly ever.
Pebbles. Full of personality and mega talented.November 30, 2010 at 01:45 #330478Jumps
Slip Away-he reminds me of his sire. Gray, front-runner, freaky fast, but while Skip Away couldn’t go past 10 furlongs, Slip Away prefers twice that distance.
My favorite race of his mms://66.209.93.119/nsa/2010/20100417_0 … ing_03.wmv
Finally learned how to rate in the Colonial Cup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfeu4r1R2Bs
Bubble Economy aka "Bubbles"-tough as nails timber horse, champion in 2004, 2008, and 2010.
So he wins this race mms://66.209.93.119/nsa/2010/20100501_0 … Cup_03.wmv
And then he wins this one ONE WEEK LATER mms://66.209.93.119/nsa/2010/20100508_0 … ois_06.wmv
McDynamo-best American racehorse of the 2000s, jumps or flat. Now enjoying his job as a foxhunter. Can’t find any video of him.Flat
Zenyatta-the greatest
Evening Attire-can you tell I like grays? This guy won the Jockey Club Gold Cup early in his career, then became a fan favorite known for literally walking out of the gate. Currently being retrained as a riding horse and doing quite well.

Better Talk Now aka "Blackie"-the Breeders Cup Turf isn’t the same without the old man.November 30, 2010 at 08:35 #330487Jumps:
Desert Orchid – Best jumper of a fence bar none.
Muse – Game front runner and quickest hurdling technique I ever saw.
Make A Stand – no horse has ever enjoyed jumping a hurdle more.Flat:
Persian Punch – guts, guts and more guts.
Arazi – most devasting turn of foot I’ve ever seen as a 2yo at the Breeders Cup.
Lochsong – The fastest filly ever. With the exception of Arazi they are all front runners which probably says something about the type of horse I love. They all wanted to dominate and were all brave enough to battle to stay there.
November 30, 2010 at 22:54 #330629The jumpers are all from my boyhood but are the favourits because the fanned the flames of my of my love of the winter game.
Arkle – need I say more, the one, the only, the best
Freddie, second in two grand Nationals and the 65 Hennessey to the great one above. Scotlands best ever chaser trained on a farm near Kelso in the best traditions of the game.
Persian War – often forgotten when hurdlers are discussed but in my view rates as the best. Hard as nails battler who did not have the easiest of owners and also overcame illness.
Flat
Mill Reef. The first horse to win the Derby, Eclipse, King George and the Arc in the same season, won the Coronation Cup the following year before injury ended his career. His defeat in the 71 Guineas was considered a shock at the time until we realised what a great horse Brigadier Gerard was.
Double Trigger – hard nosed stayer the kind of battler I like.
Rose of Tobrouk – who you might ask? "Rosie" won a race at the Castleholm Langholm in the 70s on the Common Riding Day and I led her up. My only claim to racing fame and thus this humble flapper, whose son Heroic Way, won the John Peel Open at Dalston point to point, gets a mention on this esteemed forum
December 1, 2010 at 09:24 #330655I gonna write those who gave me the most intense feelings since I watch horse racing.
Jumps:
– THE FELLOW: His nickname was "The cat" if I’m not wrong. He has won some of the most prestigious chases in England and France, and is still the only horse to have achieve that.
– AL CAPONE II: Doesn’t look like a great champion. He was quite small, but too mighty and tough for his opponents. What a fantastic horse he was!
– PRINCESSE D’ANJOU: Same kind than Al Capone. Very small mare, but her strength and courage enabled her to sign some of the best performances I saw in the last ten years at Auteuil.Flat:
– CELTIC SWING: I’ll keep him in my memory. He was a beautiful athlete.
– LAMTARRA: Epsom – King Georges – Arc. That was unbelievable. He stopped his career at 3.
– GOLDIKOVA: I thought it wasn’t possible anymore to win more than ten Grade I nowadays.December 1, 2010 at 18:53 #330727On the flat
Grundy – probably the bravest performance I ever saw on the flat when he beat Bustino and his pacemakers in the King George
Belper – a great attitude to overcome the handicap of only having one eye
Nijinski – absolutely top class over a whole myriad of distances
Re National Hunt
Night Nurse – the first NH horse that I fell in love with. Absolutely a star amongst a great era of hurdlers who went on to be a top class chaser
Gay Spartan – a Dickinson horse who never had the chance to fulfill his massive potential
Carvills Hill – injury prone and clumsy but what an engine
December 1, 2010 at 20:08 #330734Jumps
SEA PIGEON the best of an extraordinary era
WAYWARD LAD because he never won the gold cup never recoginsed as a truly great chaser which he was
RED RUM transcended the sport
Flat
GRUNDY the bravest of the brave and the first time i was struck by a horses appearance, a beautiful chestnut.
DAYJUR proverbial s**t off a stick
MIDWAY LADY made me more money, knew all about her ability before her first appearance, than any other horse.
December 1, 2010 at 20:21 #330737Gosh that’s hard, I don’t think I could pick 3 but to try and even out past and present:
Alverton, Sea Pigeon, Fondmort all pivotal in my love for NH.
Flat horses
errrm. Sea Pigeon(!), Persian Punch, Zenyatta
but ask me again in 10 mins and get a different answer.

If mine seems a little recent it cause I’ve only been watching horse racing for a couple of years and don’t know a lot of older horses.

– My favourite horse when bitten by the racing bug. Looked like a warhorse with his blinkers and low headcarriage, kept on coming back for more even into the veteran years. I still believe he was underrated.
Kauto Star
– So thrilling, so brilliant.
Robbo
– Loved his mid-race attacks of multiple personality disorder.
Flat
Sergeant Cecil
– Like a knife through butter with those last-to-first sweeps and a great horse for a small stable.
Persian Punch
– Relentless, game and all that.
Chewit
– Little grey sprinter(?)mid-late ’90s, planted himself in the stalls one day, which I found hilarious!

Ah yes.. the reason why I loved Harwell Lad and Vodkatini!

No mention of
Floyd
Tuffers?
December 1, 2010 at 21:13 #330752Floyd is a bittersweet memory for me TAPK. I loved the chunky little horse but I had 66s antepost on him when he was withdrawn before the Champion Hurdle (if I remember correctly when second favourite)
I should have known then that I should stay clear of betting, lolDecember 1, 2010 at 21:14 #330753No mention of
