January 21, 2010 at 09:00 #271213Hi,
Please don’t take this the wrong way but I have never known a system to work in the long run.
I’ve been betting well over 30 years and its only been the last 5 or so that have been profitable.I have found that some systems work for a period but are too rigid in general.
I may be wrong and have many people disagree but if you are a young guy trying to go pro I seriously doubt you will be able to do this using systems.

So you’ve been betting for well over 30 years, roopert, and possess the confidence to discuss the relative merits of adopting a system, yet claim to have a ‘pretty limited’ knowledge of horseracing? At what point during your five years of supposedly profitable betting did you abandon your ideals and decide that subscribing to tipping services was the way to go?

Yes.
To try to give you more detail for your witch hunt…I’m 48 years old and understand the form of greyhound racing very well. I was involved with many greyhounds in the 1980s including owning a Derby semi finalist.
From there I tried to get my head round horse racing and still struggle with the form, weights etc. Dog racing is much easier as the weights are the same and they generally run at the same track, over the same distance.
I bought a few systems after this as an attempt to make up for my lack of form ability. None worked in the long run and some were quite ridiculous looking back.
I subscribed to my first racing service around 8 years ago as I thought this would be a short cut to the holy grail but it wasn’t. I also had shares in a floated partership which went bust losing me more money.
Around 5 years ago I found a decent racing service (wouldn’t want to mention names in case it upset you) but they ceased to exist after the change in rules from inside information (trainers, jockeys etc)
It has then taken me a while to find some more decent information.
Hope this helps you build more of a character profile for your next pop at me.

Yeah very much does. So you are a cheat, one who gets into bed with the less honest amongst the Racing world in order to gain financial gain for one’s self. Yip think we’ve got you tagged now.
January 21, 2010 at 13:30 #271259What?!!
Everyone who gets information is a cheat are they?
The less honest in the racing world? WTF?I’d like to say I’ve enjoyed it on here but I haven’t.
Hope a few of you managed to back the 5 winners from 5 selections I posted.
January 21, 2010 at 13:51 #271263Roop, ignore them – if you are providing the board with some winners FOC then it makes no difference what the source is, some people have a bee in their bonnet.

Nobody’s got a ‘bee in their bonnet’, Rich – some people just take exception to supposed novices acting on the behalf of subscription-based tipping services.
Had roopert a) not been supplying one company’s selections on a number of betting-related forums, b) not been supplying one company’s selections without mentioning that company’s name, c) not pretended to be a newcomer to horseracing only to later state that he has over 30 years of betting experience, d) not acted as a communicative go-between for one particular forum and the company in question and e) just been honest about his intentions then I wouldn’t have any problem.
As it is he’s making it up as he goes along. Just ask yourself one question, Rich – how many people who are ‘new to forums’ open multiple accounts on or around the same day and immediately start hyping up one particular service? They’d either have to have an ulterior motive, or else be so astoundingly naive that they didn’t realise how what they were doing would be perceived. How many people who have gambled for 30-odd years, profitably for five, would be that naive?
As I said I’m happy to be proved wrong, but roopert’s tales don’t quite stack up.
January 21, 2010 at 21:22 #271319Roop, Rich, as Media Gecko says people should post tips as themselves. Maybe my choice of words (ie cheat) were wrong. I apologise for that. It was a bad day at work.
If you just came on the forum, acted as yourself, not mentioning tipping services then believe me, I would pat you on the back and say well done. And 5 out of 5 is good going. But the moment Tipping Service is mentioned it means one thing in my mind – touting for business.
Now I may be wrong, and hope I am, but why else mention tipping services and inside information? From my time on this site there have been a few tipping service types who come along and blow there trumpet with inaccurate stories then disappear just as quick. Be yourself, express opinions, tip lots of winners, just dont go down the tipping service route.
Rich, you have posted in other areas of the forum and I know you are a genuine racing man. You express opinions (ie Tataniano) and you fight your corner. Thats what this place is for…its not for advertising tipping services.
January 21, 2010 at 22:28 #271331Douginho – although the mention of tipping lines may seem suspicious initially, I’d give Roop the benefit of the doubt in this one – he seems quite genuine and just passing on some tips from a website he follows, either subscribed to or just acknowledging them and passing them on to this board (like gg.com perhaps). I don’t think he’s "touting for business" as his language and style would be a bit different, probably more persuasive or dropping in subtle hints perhaps, but he seems quite direct and unambiguous. Maybe some on this board should be a bit less judgemental and suspicious and just take at face value; I for one have mostly agreed with the tips advised and think anything of this nature is a welcome addition – for all we know some of the other threads on this board may come from tipping lines or taking note of other racing websites and just passing them on in the same way.
