How unlucky can this horse get? Cracking run in the GP de Saint Cloud yesterday, such a strong battling horse.
Does anyone know why Hughes got the ride ahead of Fallon who has been on the horses’ last few rides, I understand Fallon doesn’t seem to be riding much, and had a successful trip to the Curragh, but thought someone like Alan Munro would have got the ride instead.
June 28, 2010 at 15:36 #303611Didnt see the race yesterday but this horse aint 100% even though its run some crackers. Difficult ride for any jockey.
June 28, 2010 at 16:21 #303617I agree with the previous comment about him being a difficult ride, but after some of the races he’s been in who could blame the old boy for being a bit quirky. Fallon recently seems to have lost his position in the pecking order on Mr Channons horses

That one made me laugh
June 29, 2010 at 11:27 #303758Youmzain is talented, but a monkey (one place above a dog). Did not look as temperamental at Saint Cloud than at Epsom. Sometimes looks unlucky, but needs to be held up until the last possible moment. Connections obviously feel he pulls himself up in front. Good ride by Hughes.
Channon chops and changes his favoured jockey every couple of weeks. Hitchcott was in, then out, then rode a good race for the Pipes at Royal Ascot last year; and suddenly came back in to the fold for a while. Too unforgiving of a poor ride in my opinion.
Value Is EverythingJune 29, 2010 at 11:55 #303763I presume the Hitchcott ride you refer to was Missoula for Suzy Smith in the Ascot Stakes when beating Pipes’ Chester Cup winner Mamlook.
June 29, 2010 at 15:49 #303800Yes, Thanks Grey Desire, that’s the one. Sorry about the mistake.
P.S.
Remember Grey Desire well, just after I got more interested in the game. Mel Brittain’s wasn’t it? Red (or maroon) and yellow checks. I’ve probably got that wrong aswell.

Maroon and yellow checks Ginge, maroon white or yellow cap depending on how many he"s running!
June 29, 2010 at 22:00 #303848Having backed
Youmzain
3 times for the Arc at 66/1,33/1 and 33/1 and having suffered defeat every time,i have backed him again at 33/1 for this years renewal as he is the best e/w bet in the race. Dylan Thomas,Zarkava and Sea the Stars have all finished 1 place in front of him,so even if Workforce and Fame and Glory beat him this year,3rd place is up for grabs! Cracking Ante-Post bet as we all know he will be trained for it!Touch wood he gets there!

Possibly the worst luck he ever had was being put into training with Mick Channon?
How a horse of his calibre can be trained and placed to win just one race – in 5 seasons and 19 runs – almost defies belief.June 29, 2010 at 23:05 #303856Channon has done exceptionally well with Youmzain.
Earnt an amazing amount of money for his owners, despite the horse clearly not wanting to win.Value Is EverythingJune 29, 2010 at 23:07 #303857I’m with Reet. The last time this horse competed outside of Group 1 company was September 2006. He needs a confidence booster; Cecil’s handling of Twice over is a perfect example of a drop in class helping a horses confidence.

For all the stables resources just three Group 1’s for 3yo’s and upwards in the UK, France and Ireland in the last 15 years tells it own story imo.
Jaber Abdullah must wonder at times.

If you look back Youmzain was almost always ridden by Hughsie until Jaber Abdullah had a rush of blood to the head and replaced him before Zarkava’s Arc…guess he’s seen the error of his ways and reunited the pair.
Some seem to think a drop in class might help the horse I’m sure there are others who would argue a rubber hose between the ears would do him more good

I doubt if a change of trainer would help either……obviously Mick Channon knows him better than anyone and by some miracle he has managed to get him spot on 3 times for the Arc….I doubt if Dr Vincent himself could have done better. No shame in being beaten by two wonder horses in Zarkava and Sea The Stars.
The press call him luckless but for me Youmzain is the Henry Cooper of racing……almost but not quite
June 30, 2010 at 06:57 #303872He needs return to Germany for Group 1 success, where the tracks are spacious and fields in the 1m4f race are less dependant on speed over stamina.
In saying that, the time on his Group 1 clock reads five to midnight and I would not want to underestimate the German-bred stayers either.
July 2, 2010 at 23:08 #304264Please just look at the way that he’s been trained and targeted!

Missed his best opp way back as a 3yr old…

since then he’s been sent to the same tracks year in year out – even though he’s shown that he doesn’t like or do well at such places…
i.e. Dubai…
Good luck to him!

Doesn’t perform against the lesser caliber horses yet almost wins the Arc certainly doesn’t prefer too many places away from France!
Underestimated again it looks like in this years Arc. - AuthorPosts
