Just received a circular from Tattersalls reporting that Yellowstone is due to go their Autumn Horses in Training Sales at the end of the month.
Considering he’s a half brother to Always; one time top-class chaser for Noel Meade (not nearly at that level now sadly), I suppose the jump-boys will do battle for him (assuming he’s not withdrawn before then).
Any ideas on possible location / likely price ? I’d imagine there hasn’t been many potentially better converts to NH over recent years.
October 16, 2007 at 13:15 #119849My money’s on HoJo, for about 3/4m.
October 16, 2007 at 14:46 #119864He’s not in the catalog I downloaded from the Tattersalls site last week!

October 16, 2007 at 14:59 #119868“YELLOWSTONE, the Aidan O’Brien trained Group 3 winning three year old colt, is a late entry for the forthcoming Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale which takes place Monday 29th October – Thursday 1st November.
Owned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier, the son of the great ROCK OF GIBRALTAR will have the highest Timeform rating of any three year old in the catalogue with a mark of 119. He will sell on Tuesday 30th October in the Ballydoyle draft as lot 634 in place of PERFECTUS who has been withdrawn.”

I wasn’t doubting your post, just wondering how they were going to attract buyers without putting him in the catalog. I didn’t know they permitted late entries, but I suppose it’s different rules for different horses/owners.
I reckon he’ll make seven figures if he shows up – surely he’d be worth that to a US buyer. You could see him dominating the turf races out there and as a son of the Rock, there’d be demand for him as a sire afterwards.
I guess Tattersalls calculated the potential commission and decided their normal September closing date for entries was open to negotiation!

October 16, 2007 at 15:47 #119879Well im surprised there isn’t alot more from ballydoyle going up for sale. Exactly how many pace makers can one have in a yard? Its not as if they’re all going racing as four year olds. hmmm.
October 16, 2007 at 16:22 #119885Plenty of the Ballydoyle also-rans get sold abroad privatly.
October 16, 2007 at 21:06 #119931The sales in October are my favorite time of the year as I like it when a lot of good flat horses are snapped up by jumping stables like Purple Moon did last year. I think Graham Wylie usually goes made with his chequebook. I wonder what flat horses going to the sales will end up going hurdling.
On another point, I read a feature in today’s daily express where they was a article about Jonjo O’Neill. It mentioned that Coolmore are planning to send one of their 3 year olds to be trained over hurdles by O’Neill just like they did with Mountain last year. Which 3-year old so you think Coolmore will send to Jackdaws Castle. My money is on Honolulu.
October 16, 2007 at 21:47 #119942You could be a bit premature on Honolulu MD. He runs on Sunday in the C$ 2 Million Canadian International (Gr.1) at Woodbine with Michael Kinane in the saddle.
I’d have thought victory there may result in him being aimed at greater things – although Grasshopper may think that there is no greater aim than Cheltenham!
October 16, 2007 at 22:14 #119948yellowstone will not be bought by an owner whose intentions are for the horse to be trained by Jonjo. As Jonjo trains for Derrick Smith and JP McManus – the horse would not have appeared at newmarket sales.
Honolulu – not a hurdles type.
Look out for a Magnier horse coming over to Jonjos from David Wachman.
I am not allows to tsay who – until it races. It could go for the Triumph.
October 17, 2007 at 11:16 #120015Honolulu is a dog.
October 17, 2007 at 12:38 #120038Would be interested in seeing Mahler campaigned over hurdles. He just strikes me as a potentially useful World Hurdle type…
October 17, 2007 at 17:39 #120112As Jamessmith says, it is telling that Yellowstone will not be running in the colours of Tabor, Magnier or Smith over the sticks.
My money would be on him making his way from Newmarket to Ditcheat after the sales.
October 17, 2007 at 20:53 #120150Nah, I personally think that Graham Wylie will surpass the 440,000 gunieas paid for Purple Moon last year and will snap up Yellowstone at the Newmarket sales. I think he will also purchase half a dozen former Sir Mark Prescott horses at the sales too.
October 30, 2007 at 17:57 #122332Yellowstone made 520,000 gns, sold to Stan Moore.

October 30, 2007 at 18:06 #122334Sooner be the vendor rather than the buyer.
October 30, 2007 at 19:07 #122339Off to Dubai I should think…
