News tonight that Yanworth failed a dope test following the Chmpion Hurdle. I do question though why it takes so long for news of these things to come out.
July 4, 2017 at 22:34 #1307688I guess this was always a risk with a horse like Yanworth. He has well-documented soundness problems and often pulls up lame after routine work, so quite a few drugs must go into his system.
It must be a struggle for connections to time his injections in a way to make sure that his blood is clean on raceday.
July 5, 2017 at 09:36 #1307709As expected, substance revealed to be joint pain medication TCA. Unlucky for King?
July 5, 2017 at 10:07 #1307714I backed him for the champion hurdle and was shocked when he ran so poorly.
This in some way would explain it. Ok it’s an anti-inflammanant drug but so what, if it’s banned, it’s banned.
Authorities are far too weak on doping imo. If they removed King’s licence that would send a message out- targetting a top class trainer.
I think they could also start by blocking Ward from running any horses at Royal Ascot
July 5, 2017 at 11:54 #1307719I mentioned a couple of times last season that Yanworth did not look as though he was putting it all in in a finish. His racing style and general demeanour did not suggest temperament problems. I wonder if he was hurting?
