Will probably have my main bet on Oscar Whisky and a bit on RDS as well, they seem the two classiest horses in the race and their trainers will have them up to the task. At 4/1 and 6/1 it’s not too difficult to bet both and still make a decent profit.
March 4, 2013 at 14:07 #431282I’m starting to like monksland in this- take a look at his neptune run last year and he was clearly stopped in his run by cotton mill. also he fits the age stats- as graeme rodway pointed out on the racing post tv preview, younger horses have tended to have the edge in this. biggest worry is he’s trained by noel meade who has a terrible record at cheltenham.
I don’t think oscar whiskey will get home in a horse box (it seemed to me they went a crawl last time and even then he struggled to get home) and although you’d have to respect reve de sivola, he’s hardly a big bucks is he?
March 4, 2013 at 16:59 #431297Grands Crus will run in this if pleases Pipe.

As much as I like Oscar Whisky in this I’m going a bit cold on the race, seemingly quite open with a lot of good horses.
I had Captain Conan and Oscar Whisky rated with the same chance of winning but with Conan having less stiff competition I think I’ll just go bigger on him instead and go smaller on OW.

As long as the Horse is ok I shall not get too upset over this news, with plenty on at 10/1 about Reve De Sivola
March 6, 2013 at 22:28 #431521I like Grands Crus if he runs in this race, with good to soft or better ground. It is something of a gamble given his recent form, but he has only disappointed once on his favoured ground conditions. Plenty depends on whether the real Peddlers Cross shows up, too.

no they don’t do that show anymore.
it’s a brand new show called "beat the pack"

March 7, 2013 at 15:02 #431577Am on Bog Warrior at 20’s, if he does turn up and it’s soft he’d have a massive chance.
March 7, 2013 at 15:52 #431580One I haven’t seen mentioned on this thread is Solwhit.
Admittedly, he has stamina to prove, he stays two and a half well enough, but will he stay three? That’s been the question hanging over Oskar Whisky’s head for a while, and although OW ran well enough last time to suggest he stays, didn’t quite find enough to go past. In comparison, Solwhit has shown better form consistently against Hurricane Fly over time, has beaten Voler La Vedette over two and a half, who gave Big Bucks an almighty fright last year. Won an Aintree hurdle (Oscar Whisky’s race) a while back. Obviously coming back from injury tempers enthusiasm to a degree, but being three times the price of Oscar Whisky, I would prefer to take the chance he stays well enough in a truly run race over Oscar Whisky anytime at the prices. His first run back for a very long time he was found wanting behind Bog Warrior in very heavy ground. On better going and no bounce factor, I think he may well run a huge race. Clearly still retains a touch of class and at around 10/1 would be my value bet.March 7, 2013 at 19:07 #431594AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 764
Grand Crus going for the World Hurdle!
Would love to have backed him in this but with the soft ground forecast I’m holding off for now
March 7, 2013 at 19:13 #431595Soft ground forecast?
The last update I saw forecast only 10-12mm over the weekend, with the likelihood of a dry week ahead. I doubt there will be anything worse than good-to-soft at any point.
March 7, 2013 at 23:02 #431620one of the big myths surrounding this race is "reve de sivola needs a bog" or "he needs it bottomless to have any chance"
what a load of bollox. granted, some of his best form is in heavy ground, but I very much doubt it matters what the ground is to him. have a look at him on video and he hardly strikes you as a mudlark. he won a race at punchestown on good ground beating quevega and co if you go back far enough.
tbh, he’s probably the one runner in this with the least question marks. oscar whiskey won’t get home, and peddlers cross isn’t the animal it once was. smad place is one of the slowest horses i’ve ever seen and if that wins i’ll run naked up the cheltenham straight.
probably the dark horse in this is grands crus. I watched his run last time in the argento and it struck me how much confidence he had lost over the larger obstacles. he’s a small horse to be jumping fences and it just looked liked he’d lost his nerve.
going back over hurdles is certainly the right move for him, and he’s the only horse to ever give big bucks a race. he’s dancing in the last chance saloon now, but it would be a bit of a fairy story if he can come back and win.
between him and reve de sivola for me.
March 7, 2013 at 23:24 #431621The Nicholls horse incredibly popular 12’s from 20’s only had one run, Wonderful Charm.
