I don’t know if anyone else here likes Doctor Who, but you know when they say ‘The Doctor faces his MOST DANGEROUS FOE YET’, and you know that, while you’ll have an inordinate amount of fun finding out how he’ll do it, the Doctor will basically be ok? Well, the World Hurdle’s a bit like that, isn’t it? After having disproved the claims of Oscar Whisky, having done the same to Grands Crus last year, the question has to be asked….
Who will be Big Buck’s’s (God, that apostrophe is annoying!) MOST DANGEROUS FOE YET for next year?
Personally, while I’d love to see Que Vega take him on, I don’t think it’ll happen.
One horse I think could be interesting, if he goes the three mile route is Peddler’s Cross. He’s got stamina, and with his underwhelming chasing career finished, you’d wonder if McCain’s going to be looking at further.
What do you think?

So don't run, just like the others always do
March 17, 2012 at 23:35 #397524If Brindissi Breeze were to stay hurdling he might give him a race?
March 18, 2012 at 20:54 #397638The way he pulled away from the mare after looking in a tad of trouble was impressive, have they got to the bottom of him yet? Not in my eyes, for me injury is the only danger

i agree i think this is an exceptional horse and if he where to stay hurdling i think he would give big bucks a lot to think about this horse just seems to run everything into the ground from the front although i would imagine they will go chasing
March 23, 2012 at 09:23 #398116Cracking horse but chasing as you say looks likely.
Biggest danger to Big Bucks winning another World Hurdle is Paul Nichols deciding he’s won enough of them and sending him for the Gold Cup as he no longer has a horse capable of winning it.
Unlikely? Who knows what PN will cook up next.
October 4, 2012 at 10:34 #415143Anyone think Zarkander will go the World Hurdle route? Don’t see him winning the Champion Hurdle, but from the way he finished last year, maybe a step up would suit him? 10/1 ish currently and if he does go that way, won’t last long!
I am a Hurricane Fly fan so will follow him to regain the Champion Hurdle trophy this year.October 4, 2012 at 13:29 #415169I am contemplating putting an ante on Valkandar for the World Hurdle and was wondering what views people have on whether he is likely to go that route.
I am a Hurricane Fly fan so would not oppose the horse in the Champion Hurdle, but feel that Valkandar could not win it anyway. The way he finished the Champion however gives me the impression the longer the further, but would Nichols put him up against Big Bucks. I am at looking at 12’s and if he does go that route that price I feel will collapse.
So any views?October 4, 2012 at 20:23 #415209I think that you mean Zarkandar? If you do then he is certainly going to be targeted at 2 miles and his target is the Champion Hurdle. Who knows what will happen if he gets beat and the plan doesnt materialise. But certainly the intended target is the Champion Hurdle and I get the impression that if PFN gets a clear run with this horse he thinks that he will be a player.
October 4, 2012 at 20:26 #415210Personally speaking at the moment I wouldn’t be tempted by the 14/1 odds currently available for the World Hurdle for Zarkandar, his odds on betfair are 23 to back and 75 to lay and I think that this reflects much more accurately the likelihood of him lining up in the race and winning it.
October 6, 2012 at 14:47 #415482Same here. I guess the safest way to get profit onto this is laying. I don’t think he’s gonna win any events for the next few months though.

October 14, 2012 at 18:19 #416734Big Buck’s for half a decade of dominance, no concerns.
November 22, 2012 at 12:56 #420504Big Bucks wins it again….unquestionably the greatest staying hurdler ever seen and when he wins an unprecedented 5th World Hurdle it won’t surprise me if he joins the greatest chaser,Arkle,in having a race named in his honour at future Cheltenham Festivals !

Cheers Boz,
It certainly wont be the same, although we could have a competetive race to look forward to, give me a true champion anyday. I guess the law of averages dictated that one of either Quevega or Big Bucks going for a 5 timer each may pick up an injury at some point – how many other jumpers can be brought back at the top level year on year, the sport is littered with great careers interrupted/ended by injuries.I guess i’ll have to use my Big Bucks Scarf as a Man Utd one now!
Here’s hoping a speedy recovery to the champ and also not forgetting Al Ferof.

My thoughts excatly Boz – as soon as I read the news.
One of the riches race of the year and what else does Nicholls have to enter ?
Zarkander possibly but given his performance on Saturday he’ll surely head for the Champion, especially given the official switch from the yard of Rock On Ruby.
26s available on betfair and IF he is entered, any of his last three runs – not least his hurdles victory – would give him a chance.

December 18, 2012 at 10:44 #423372I like the look of Zaidpour. Won very well at Fairyhouse the other week and should never have run in the champion hurdle last year. Some top level form over 3m in Ireland.
I am of the opinion that Willie will keep Quevega for the Mares race as first time out its a nice rewarding opener where her major target is the Punchestown World Series Hurdle.
