Try this for size then! Tidal Bay was rated 166 as a chaser Big Bucks 159! Big Bucks beat Krugyorova by 2 lengths in Jan 08, Tidal Bay beats Krugyorova by 13 lengths in the Arkle of March 08! You are in for a big surprise!
Might be the same this year – if they run the World Hurdle over 2 miles.
Actually we were discussing jumping fences at the time! but i consider all form as relative when assessing horses form! Thats why i am the Legendary King of the Ante-Post Kingdom, that there is no doubt! You are just reet hard? or as we say in Scotland Retard!
March 2, 2010 at 12:08 #280032I think people are forgetting about Sentry Duty. People are saying that he may not stay. But at 16/1 people should be saying, "why wont he stay?" He is unproven over the trip, but so was Inglis Drever before he won his first World Hurdle. They are in the same mould in that they both fell short of top class over two miles.
I was very taken with his win over 2m 4 at Chelenham. He beat Katchit with a lot more ease that day than Tidal Bay did recently. And I will have nobody tell me that Katchit is a better horse over 3M than he is over 2m 4.
I still havent found a reason why sentry duty is twice the price of Tidal Bay, and thats without taking into consideration that Tidal Bay might very well not run anywhere near his best.
March 2, 2010 at 12:12 #280034I’m a massive fan of Sentry Duty, but I feel he won’t appreciate the 3 miles one bit. He’s all about speed imo, and I’d say if Henderson didn’t have Punjabi and Zaynar, he’d be Champion Hurdle bound.

That 2m 4 race at Cheltenham was run at a decent pace and he was on the bridle the whole way round. I saw nothing to suggest that he couldnt run another 4f like that. You are taking a bit of a gamble, but I feel the 16/1 more than compensates for that.

Add to that some dodgy previous cheltenham form and he doesnt inspire confidence in me.

March 2, 2010 at 22:19 #280150Gonna be a great race and although Big Bucks did me a huge favour last year Im a big fan of Tidal Bay. Granted he has let his supporters down over the last 18 months albeit needing a wind operation and also not looking too keen over the bigger obstacles. Whenever the horse is 100% sound ( he did look in good nick last time) he invariably comes out on top. If the trainer gets him to Cheltenham in the same form and the ground is half decent, if they dont get him off the bridle I feel he will have too much speed for his rivals late on. He’s definitely a top class horse of that there is NO doubt. The favourite is special so we should be in for a treat.
March 3, 2010 at 13:33 #280235I have a question for all you more learned chaps. People say 5 year have a poor record in the Champion. How have they done in the past staying/world hurdle event???

March 3, 2010 at 13:34 #280236No 5yo winner since the race began in 1972.
March 8, 2010 at 16:40 #281185Is Karabak alright?
Quite a bit bigger on betfair than boookies. You’d expect some differance but not 10/1 as opposed to 7/1.Value Is EverythingMarch 8, 2010 at 18:15 #281205I had 10.5 matched on the 24th Feb so there hasn’t been too much movement there.

by The Ante-Post King on 29 Dec 2009, 15:13There"s only one horse who could give Big Bucks a race in this years World hurdle and he cant jump fences either!Tidal bay at 260 on the machine! Connections dont need me to remind them of their success in this particular race!
Thats a great call and your arrogance doesn’t bother me but dude have you ever made a post without putting an exclamation mark in???????!!!!!!
It gets pretty annoying after a while! Unless Im wrong they are supposed to be used to highlight a sentence that some people might find surprising or controversial but not at the end of every line? So putting one here for instance would not really be appropriate!?
But yeah hope you took that 260-1. Still not sure what to back myself I dont think I have enough money to wade into a 4-6f though so be an each way bet for me.
March 17, 2010 at 18:52 #283388March 17, 2010 at 19:08 #283390I think Powerstation is without a chance. He’s only ever been out of the first 3 once in six visits to Prestbury Park, and he wasn’t disgraced then when beaten 11 lengths in a handicap hurdle. 16/1 without Big Bucks will do for me.
March 17, 2010 at 19:11 #283391Well i had Big Bucks in a treble with MM and Kauto – so that’s gone!
E/W i’m going to take a chance on Katchit. Already have him at 25s in an e/w double with Reve de Sivola(3/1 for the place today) who finished 2nd today, so fingers crossed for tomorrow. My big worry is King’s horses seem to be firing on NO cylinders at the mo!
Did Powerstation e/w at 40/1 a few weeks ago as well.

Im with you…I can see Tidal Bay unleashed up the hill to try and collar Big Bucks.
March 17, 2010 at 22:40 #283453Is it just me or am i crazy for fancying Cousin Vinny?
Ran 4l to Micky last year at Punchestown…..that looks good in the context of this race?.
Can’t back Big Bucks…..but the field looks stinkingly bad for a Championship race.
Maybe Barry on Sentry Duty
March 17, 2010 at 22:45 #283457I was thinking of Cousin Vinny because when I watched last years races I thought he ran really well considering what a state he was in prior to the race. I suppose if I had a bet, though, it would have to be Powerstation again, because he seems as good as ever this year.
