I’m with Friggo….. I think on good to soft, 100% fit and ready, he’ll put in a big performance in the World.

You are both excellent judges of a horse, unlike that mountebank Grasshopper.
November 2, 2008 at 00:34 #187494Grasshopper’s Quick-Capsule Analysis:
"Gifted the race by a horse that makes Harchibald look resolute, and all out to finish 3L in front of the 143-rated No Refuge (on 5lbs better than handicap terms), Pettifour looks a forlorn hope for the World Hurdle.
Those who already have misplaced investments in the horse to win the race in March, will doubtless feel compelled to accentuate the positive, but they know – in their hearts – that their conkers have already been done.
Expect to see Pettifour appear in a staying novice chase near you soon."

Time for me to press up, methinks!
November 3, 2008 at 20:41 #187745I am prepared to be shot down in flames, but I too am a fan of Pettifour and thought he showed a bit of spirit to beat the Nicholls horse who looked to have more in the tank with a couple of furlongs to go – exactly what you need to win a stayers. Still a good e/w price and for me will improve for that run.
However I think experience on the course is very important and to date he has none so I have plumped for a horse who appears to love the course, but does need to improve markedly. Now 20-1, but was paying £45 on betfair – Nenuphar Collonges. Another horse who goes on and off the bridle, but truly stays all day and relishes the Chelt hill.
Still want ID to win really, jusy to hear that cheer again, but surely he is too old having broken the records last year!
November 19, 2008 at 04:44 #190581My other half went to the festival with me this year, and in the triumph she backed Won in the Dark so kept a close eye on it along with CH but it seemed to me it was staying on very well up the hill to get 3rd what will he be going for this season as it seems this race will be ideal in a couple of years or am i way of the mark???
November 19, 2008 at 06:41 #190598Hypothetical of course, but does anyone else believe Kasbah Bliss would have a chance in the champion hurdle on testing ground?
If I owned the horse, i’d keep my options open…
November 19, 2008 at 13:47 #190613If I owned the horse, I would change the jockey rather than the target.
November 29, 2008 at 18:19 #193145Inglis Drever, Blazing Bailey and Pettifour lock horns in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury today.
Should be interesting. Pettifour’s had the benefit of a run this season, and Blazing Bailey had a good spin on the flat. The Drever goes well fresh and is going for an incredible fourth win in the race.
He put in one of the best performances of his career to win this race last year, always going well and never hitting a flat spot.
Can the young pretenders tame the old lion? They’ll need to show something today because ID will still improve for the run and we all know what he can do up the Cheltenham Hill.
November 29, 2008 at 21:49 #193192Poor old Inglis Drever Retire him before he gets hurt !
November 30, 2008 at 02:15 #193258Despite the fact Nicky Henderson’s horses are jumping out of there skins that was one very impressive performance by Duc De Regniere over 3 miles for the first time. Normally I would say 6/1 was a silly price but in this case it looks justified. Granted they played into his hands as it wasn’t a true gallop but you still have to stay the trip no matter which way you cook it,
November 30, 2008 at 21:45 #193376Without The Drever, it will take some horse to beat Kasbah Bliss.
If this horse gets good ground at The Festival I can’t see anything beating him. He won a Group 3 on the flat this year and wasn’t beaten far in the Prix Du Cadran.
He’ll be the most talented horse in the field, whoever turns up, and I think he’ll be even better this season. Only a 6YO, there’s plenty more to come.
December 1, 2008 at 00:53 #193426Totally agree Bos. The staying division has a habit in recent years of being dominated by one horse and I can see Kasbah Bliss winning more than just one stayers hurdle.
December 1, 2008 at 02:22 #193443Wouldn’t argue with that it sort of falls in with tradition and he does have the best form at this point. If he does go on to win a couple it will surely convince the doubters that Inglis Drever was one very special horse
December 1, 2008 at 02:35 #193444Kasbah Bliss has had 21 starts in hurdles (and another 16 on the level) – anyone assuming further improvement is likely, just by dint of the fact that he is a 6yo, is making a leap of faith.
Granted, in Inglis Drever’s absence, he probably does have the best 3m out there, but it isn’t all that far ahead of the chasing pack (handful of lbs at most, imo), and others are far more likely to progress than Kasbah Bliss.
Last year’s Stayers Hurdle form is bogus, imo, and ante-post odds of as low as 9/4 about Kasbah Bliss are desperate.
