So far this year I have been following the trends of previous winners in the big races (group and heritage handicaps) to create a shortlist and it has proved to be successful.
The only downside is the time take to extract the information this led me to thinking, does anyone know of any decent sites that provide this information or any publications that supply the information for the season?
I remember a few seasons back I recieved a publication via William Hill/Weatherbys which covered the main summer(flat) races I wondered if there was a similar publication available this year or if anyone knew where I could obtain a copy.
Any advice greatly appreciated
May 28, 2008 at 08:31 #165672Weatherbys are still producing these guides- the one you need this time of year is the "Summer Festivals Betting Guide". Go on their site to order or ring them up. Paul Jones who started the excellent Cheltenham guide has sadly left to join some tipping line (a grave mistake on his part) so it’s to be hoped the quality doesn’t suffer.
For the races not covered I suggest you do extract the data yourself- it does take time but once it’s done you only need to update it once a year and the information gained can be well worth it- I do my own for the Irish festivals like Galway and feel it gives me a decent edge precisely because it’s not generally available.May 28, 2008 at 08:34 #165673Is that true about Paul Jones? Great shame. He was an entertaining writer and well as informative
May 28, 2008 at 08:48 #165676Not completely true. As far as I’m aware Paul Jones is still going to be writing the Cheltenham and Aintree Betting Guides next year. I think that he has only ‘jumped ship’ to this tipping line from the daily summer email betting advice service that he used to provide through Weatherbys. The Summer & National Hunt Betting Guides will still be produced, although of course Jones has not been responsible for these for some years now.

May 28, 2008 at 11:44 #165699I think " RACING TRENDS : FLAT 2008 " by David Myers may be
what you are looking for as it focuses on your type of race .I browsed through it in a bookshop and it seemed very well – researched . I
did not buy it as I don’t bet in that type of race .May 28, 2008 at 12:00 #165701Thanks guys for all the info
May 28, 2008 at 13:10 #165710Hi onefurlongout
identifying/analysing 300 top flat races and 300 top jumps races would be a very good idea. At least you know that the trainers are extremely likely to be trying to win. Also our form study would take on a sense and focus and perspective.
I have done some work on Trends and would be happy to help if I can.
cheers from
