After his impressive derby win is this colt capable of winning this 1M 4F Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on sunday ?
The ground is predicted to be soft & that could be a problem for the Michael Stoute trained 3yo, as he won by 7L on good to frim ground at Epsom, but was then well beaten at Ascot by Harbinger with a 17L margin on good ground.
I sure Ryan Moore will get the best out of the horse on sunday, but with it’s last outing & the soft ground being a bit of an unknown, it would be a brave person to put a lot on Workforce !

October 1, 2010 at 17:34 #320321This is incredible. No pre arc race . No word from trainer.Public knows nothing. Trainer had two incredible wins this year Derby and King George. Both by at least ten lengths. One retired without racing again. The other was tailed off after his Derby win. Stouty has two other derby winners who never won after the Derby and one short priced favorite who trailed in down the field. It don’t pass the smell test.Is it the derby that is the problem or what?

He was not tailed off in the King George. And if it smells so bad, then how (if at all) can you account for the fact that Workforce is now a well-backed second favourite for the Arc?
Quite a few horses never win another race after the Derby: but exactly the same is true for every big race in the calendar you could name, especially classics.

Hell knows Andy but what one does hardly affects another. He’s a genius at turning them out time after time in good form. Look at Conduit last year. He Arc a great race in the Arc and by the time the Breders comes round he has him at his peak again and wins.
The King George is best forgotten. What you have to ask yourself was the Derby win a fluke not does SMS ruin Derby winners. If there’s a better trainer on the planet he’s hiding it well.
SMS says Workforce is ready to do himslef justice but he can’t be confident he’ll reproduce his Derby form.
From his all that means nothing more than "Nothing is certain in life"
SMS would make a great polititian, he is an expert at the art talking without saying anything.
If he wins doing handstands and he is asked were you surprised he’ll then so "no but I couldn’t be sure" which is exactly what he said in the first place
October 2, 2010 at 16:54 #320493If he does himself justice he should win by a mile.OK 10 lengths. That is if he does himself justice as Stouty says.
October 2, 2010 at 17:58 #320497Workforce has my money on him although I’m not too confident.
I do know one thing for certain: if Workforce wins it’s going to be a race that goes down as the stuff of legend.
He’s either going to win by a country mile or trundle home somewhere near the back. There’ll be no photo finish or a win/lose by a nose for Workforce in this one.October 2, 2010 at 19:10 #320506I for one hope that he wins the Arc, even though I won’t be betting on the race.
I agree totally that SMS is one of the best trainers in living memory and Workforce will lack nothing in preparation.
I think that it is hats off to Khalid Abdullah and all the connections to let him take his chance, as it would be very easy to simply ship him off to studOctober 3, 2010 at 14:19 #320668What a great training performance !!
True class as usual comes to the fore.
Congratulations to all concerned.
Lets hope that the jokers in the stewards room leave it unalteredOctober 3, 2010 at 15:51 #320712He’s either going to win by a country mile or trundle home somewhere near the back. There’ll be no photo finish or a win/lose by a nose for Workforce in this one.
Well… oops. But also… yay!
I’m waiting for someone to say, ‘well it was a poor field’ or some other nonsense. He’s got to stay in training now surely?

Winning it is of course the main reason for him
not
to stay in training (see one of the other threads for this debate.)
