    It looks as though the 12 runner novice hurdle at Worcester today is going to be reduced to a walkover due to a protest against the low prizemoney on offer.

    Whilst I support putting pressure on courses to improve prizemoney I don’t think it does trainers any favours to go about it in this way. The fact that the race was below tariff was apparent at the entry stage. If they didn’t like the prizemoney they should have simply not made any entries. The race would have then been re-opened and it would have been open to Worcester to announce they were upping the prizemoney to attract entries. In fairness to Worcester, if the race attracts 12 declarations, there is no reason for them to think the prizemoney is an issue.

    Apparently another similar boycott is planned for next week. Not sure which course is affected.
