Brilliant stuff, got out in front and never looked back. Superb performance. Hard to believe that they struggled to even qualify for the Olympics and then had to wait for other results at the end of the round robin.
My life expectancy is in the order of 30,000 days and I’m fairly sure that’s the only one where I’ll wake up at 6am to watch curling and then still be awake at 4am after watching another curling match
February 20, 2022 at 10:39 #1583971I’m back in the land of the living now Richard, yep it took some screen viewing
perseverance to see it out, but was so well worth it. They both (men too) gave
a great performance but got to tip my hat to the ladies, they were as determined
and focused as I’d seen them the whole competition. Let’s hope it’s not another
20 years
February 20, 2022 at 11:12 #1583972Fabulous result. They controlled the match from start to finish. Never in doubt!

Looking back, the semi final against Sweden was the de facto final. It was a superb effort to come back from 4-0 down after the first end.
Japan did not play well, in fact they had a bit of a shocker – but that was partly because Eve and Co put them under pressure from the outset.
What price Eve Muirhead to be Sports Personality of the Year?
February 20, 2022 at 14:28 #1583984I did hear a Mr Bob Sleigh won the gold.
February 20, 2022 at 18:14 #1584015With hindsight I think Japan were beaten long before the end. It was certainly much more relaxing than the semi!
They seemed pretty delighted with silver, and rightly so.
Muirhead 20/1 for Sports Personality, she should make the shortlist but the fact that it’s February probably doesn’t help her, people have short memories.
February 20, 2022 at 19:06 #1584024I agree recency bias is a big factor but 20/1 is fair. I will throw a small bet at that. There is no summer Olympics and the Qatar World Cup will still be in progress when the SPOTY ceremony is usually held. It might be a winnable year.
The only false note with the curling coverage is Steve Cram. Not sure what he adds to the commentary. At one point he even admitting to forgetting about blanking – a fairly standard tactic.
I would rather hear more from Jackie and Rhona.

Not sure if 20/1 is the best available, not on Oddschecker strangely. That was 365. Definitely worth a couple of shillings at those odds or better. The British public does love a good story too and finally winning at the fourth attempt is something even the most casual fan will lap up.
Agree that Cram should know a bit more by now, he’s been doing it a while I think. Especially as he has two top former players to learn from. The Eurosport pair were alright, one was also former player who seemed to know his stuff.
February 20, 2022 at 20:25 #158403736 on the Betfair Exchange, which is very fair.
I suppose someone from a more popular sport will win but I am happy to take that price.
February 22, 2022 at 20:21 #1584351Another bonus is that she’s Scottish and the Scot’s do love to vote for one of their own in numbers.
