I cannot believe that from May if you want to be able to view the horses in the paddock you are going to have to pay at least £35 for a ticket.
I will not be going there again for a while.
April 3, 2022 at 20:00 #1591015That is really poor. I used to enjoy the Monday nights at Windsor. Part of the appeal is the look of the course. The lawn between the weighing room and the parade ring by the river is a very appealing location.
The idea you cannot visit that part of the course or see the horses in the paddock on a standard £18 ticket is very unfair. Charging £35 for the privilege of being able to go to the paddock is profiteering. The evening meetings are very enjoyable but it is only modest racing most of the time.
It sounds like Windsor is desperate to make back the money it has lost over the last two years.
April 3, 2022 at 21:16 #1591019It seems to me that the policy at ARC tracks is to push up individual race day prices in the hope racegoers will purchase the annual badges that offer better value if, that is, you want to visit those tracks pretty much all the time.
I don’t and at these prices I am more likely to visit Jockey Club racecourses.
£10 at Epsom on Blue Riband Trial Day and £20 at Sandown Park on Classic Trial Day is infinitely better value.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 3, 2022 at 23:05 #1591039That’s ridiculous. I didn’t know that
The paddock is more or less the best thing at Windsor and it’s one of the nicest In the country
April 3, 2022 at 23:24 #1591046Christ, you’ll feel like you’re chasing your losses before a single horse has even left the stalls.
April 4, 2022 at 06:41 #1591077£35 for a card of maiden races and moderate handicaps makes the £30 for Tatts on the Aintree Thursday look even better value.
April 4, 2022 at 07:01 #1591078I’m actually not at all keen on going to any ARC courses on a point of general principle going forwards.
I usually like a day or two at Bath (who have a free day 24th April tbf) and Brighton in the summer but, while Fontwell Park and Royal Windsor are pretty racecourses in parts and sentiment makes me want to go Jump racing at Lingfield Park and evoke memories of the 80s, at current prices I will pass.
None of these venues are as easy on the eye as they used to be, anyway, and Worcester in particular is an ARC venue that has been allowed to get into a right state.
Jockey Club racecourses often offer far better deals for decent racing.
Aintree Thursday at £30 is a gift, comparatively speaking.

April 4, 2022 at 07:57 #1591081I think maybe ARC are doing a few one-off Freebies as part of their seemingly bizarre current pricing strategy.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 4, 2022 at 08:26 #1591085The new arrangement is from 25th April with tickets for the trackside free that day and £5 if you want to be able to view the paddock (Jubilee enclosure)
Then £18 and £35 from 2nd May.
April 4, 2022 at 09:32 #1591089Few tracks have changed so much over the years as Windsor. Back I the day it used to be a real betting ring scrum and I can remember it also going quiet when The Dodger (who stood out) approached a nervous bookie with a huge bet. There was always a seller on the card and the auction ring was fun to watch. It was a bit rackety in truth and im not one for silly nostalgia. I think the atmosphere its nicer now
Now its like a genteel garden party with lots of Prosecco soaked ladieswholunch and office outings. I only tend to go once a year on reciprocals because the racing isn’t good enough frankly and im much more jumps orientated anyway One group three and a couple, of listeds a season I think? The maidens used to goodish quality though with Stoute always running decent animals but many trainers prefer Kempton now. Kempton simply has better racing for a tenner
I think racing is price sensitive for actual racegoers because we have a lot of choice around here but for the once a year brigade who make up most of Windsors crowd? they will pay £200 to see some drab concert at the O2 so £35 won’t bother them
But there is an alternative. I do lots of cycling around Windsor and the view from the other side of the river, which is a truly beautiful stretch of the thames walk, is not bad at all
April 4, 2022 at 09:36 #1591090They originally advertised advanced tickets for today’s meeting at £31 for one enclosure. After they discovered an ‘administration error’ it was reduced £18. The words ‘it’, ‘on’ and ‘trying’ come to mind.
April 4, 2022 at 10:29 #1591091“Kempton simply has better racing for a tenner.”
It does – but the down side is even Kempton’s fans (and I am one of them) have to admit it is dull and never going to win a beauty contest.
Windsor charge £35 or more because (as Clive says) they know people are going to pay for it. They like the boat trip from the town, sipping champagne on the lawn, listening to the musicians (I assume they still wander about the course) and generally just soaking up the summer atmosphere.
I have not been for a while but it did change over the years. It used to be quite genteel. Then the “let’s drink as much as we can and scream home every winner even if we have not backed it” crowd arrived. I don’t expect it has got better.
April 4, 2022 at 10:44 #1591092Thats exactly it Cork. Frankly racegoing is never going to targeted at a few smelly old men spilling out of a Wetherspoons and polluting the racecourse air with real ale farts whilst exclaiming “how much!” every time they hold everyone up counting out 10p pieces for a pint
April 4, 2022 at 10:52 #1591094Your Wetherspoons obsession again, Clive!

North of £5 for a pint of John Smith’s Extra Smooth? Daylight robbery!
I do find it a bit amusing when people try to get a drink on the boat down to the racecourse. By the time they have been served the boat has already arrived at the track. Can’t they wait?
April 4, 2022 at 11:30 #1591099Funnily enough I always thought that too. Its all of ten minutes!
Mind you a old mate of mine who was in a small crowd of us at Ascot a few weeks back was drinking to a disturbing level. He looks dreadful too. Blokes seem to go one way or other in their fifties
I barely drink these days and rarely beer but I recall John smiths extra smooth as being just about the vilest pint available anywhere

It is. Tasteless rubbish. I know it is not any of my business but a bit of my soul dies when I hear someone order it.
