July 11, 2009 at 00:43 #239040ATR have posted this for anyone who is interested, obviously trying to take advantage of the situation but at the same time was an oppurtunity to do so. I would say its highly likely they will get more userss now, I for one will use ATR now, even the free stuff at RP is worthless with all the ads to sign up to be a member.
ATR
We’re proud to maintain a free site for racing fans without any compromise on the depth and quality of our content or on the highest levels of service.
Most of all, we believe in two things:
1. Punters drive the industry. They deserve respect.
Racecards, form, archive video, tips, previews, insight and analysis should all be available FREE to anyone wanting to follow racing. These are things that allow them to get properly involved. They help promote racing.2. Racing’s not a club or closed shop.
We should take racing and all race data to the widest possible audience, never make it exclusive and give all punters the same fair opportunity to enjoy the sport.Over half a million people used attheraces.com last month and we’re still growing. To sustain that growth, we are committed to maintaining our levels of service without charging users for information that must be free for racing to thrive and prosper as a sport.
Since we launched our site back in 2004, we have:
* Pioneered archive video, making races available online within moments of the horses passing the post.
* Launched an odds comparison service that ranks above any other in racing.
* Delivered not only pure racing form data but also innovative ways to interpret that form in FormScan, Draw Check and Future Form.
* Produced a print outs service enabling users to download PDF racecards and form guides and take them where laptops can’t go.
* Brought to our users the very best analysis and tipping services spearheaded by Hugh Taylor, our lead tipster who has generated a profit of over 200 points in his first three months. And of course, all the above has always been free of charge to everyone.
But that’s not to say we are being complacent. We know that there is still work to do on our site and admit those changes won’t happen overnight. Right now, we have a list of over 60 new developments that we want to implement to make attheraces.com an even better free service for racing fans.
And that’s where you come in. What changes and improvements would you like to see? It could be anything from enhancements to our video services to the way we display our news and feature articles. Please let us know by emailing me at editor@attheraces.com. I can’t guarantee that every single email will be answered, but I will vow that we’ll take every view into account as we prioritise and further develop our website so that the free service we provide will always mirror the demands of the most important people out there – our customers.

Good luck to ATR, though it should be remembered they are hand in glove with Sky TV/SIS, and in direct competition with the RP’s cohorts of RUK and Turf TV. Nothing I’d like better neither having a monopoly, to enable racing to go forward as a sport rather than a milch-cow for the opportunists.
In the meanwhile, I’ll grudgingly pay my £7.50 for something that had been free for a number of years, and was gifted by the Sheikh in racing’s, rather than corporate, interests. That will be only until someone else provides a comparative service. When that time comes, I’ll happily jump ship; even at similar cost, though in this instance it would more be a case of leaving behind the sinking vessel complete with the drowning rats.
For those who haven’t subscribed, I’d advise they try and avoid it. There are still more glitches, seized-up screens, and adverts, than anyone should reasonably expect from a service you have to pay for.July 11, 2009 at 03:24 #239055Reet .. I can’t believe that you and others are paying for this shiote when there are other places to go and better sites with better information.
I suppose everyone there’s one born every day.

I have reluctantly done the same as Reet , mainly for convenience. I could try to rely on the copy of the Post I buy each day but like to use evenings/nights looking ahead to the next days racing. Given I part with £1-60 at least for the paper I have decided that 25p per day for the web info is reasonable, much like Carvillshill

And don’t care.
I can manage fine with what’s free, I just need a decent place to go to satisfy my breeding interests.
